The Forsyth Township Public Library is celebrating 50 years in the community. Gwinn Seed Library is here to help people be more aware of what to grow in windows while we all wait in anticipation for the real spring!

The last workshop was great. It was on pest management. It was run by a guy who knows both organic and inorganic pest management which helped us understand multiple approaches.

However, we also discussed w**ding and I mentioned a tool I like alot. It is in the tool in the picture. By planting rows of crops slightly more than head width I can quickly run down between rows and remove w**ds. It's easily sharpened and the more sharp it is, the better the w**d removal. I found it on Amazon. If you don't like bending over, you'll also find a strandup version.

Greetings Seed Library Patrons!

Gwinn Area Boy Scouts and the Gwinn Seed Library have teamed to build raised garden boxes. All sales directly fund Scout programs and the Gwinn Seed Library!

The boxes are made from solid 2 x 6 lumber, secured with 3" deck screws, all exterior surfaces are sealed with a water-based sealant (more food friendly) AND we have added a plastic liner on the inside of the box walls to protect the wood from water damage over time and keep soil and roots from 'leaking' out the sides. AND, the plastic overlaps the bottom creating a sleeve soil sits on to prevent it from leaking out. The boxes are designed to sit on the ground - no bottom to allow longer root crops to find deeper soil!

Dimensions: 2 feet wide, 7 feet long, just over 1 foot tall with a 2 x 6 'sit on' cap for more comfortable garden activities.

They are selling fast for $100 each!

You can't build these for that price!

They can be picked up by arrangement or if you live in Gwinn, delivery is free. If you live outside Gwinn, we will work out a reasonable rate for delivery.

Last Thursday we had a 'tea party. It was a workshop in my workshop on building a tea brewer...... no not ice tea or hot tea. This was about plant teas. The workshop was about ingredients to use for annuals versus perennials, and what a 'tea' looks like when it's ready to use. Participants built their own brewer components for a five gallon brewer and we put the first recipe together for brewing.
It's referred to as tea because the ingredients are aerated which with a bit of imagination, looks like tea boiling.
There will be other workshops available. Let's hear from you!

Hi everybody! July was supposed to be the start of fundraising for the 2023 budget but we are moving right along with some amazing funding already taking place. And....... watch for some very exciting news mid-July. Can't let the beans out of the bag yet!

Our first corporate sponsor has agreed to five years of support!
July was the month to start fundraising for the Seed Library but it's happening now! The budget for 2023 is $1500. We're at just under $200 thanks to the generosity of our patrons of the seed library and now a corporate sponsor!
If you know of a company we can approach, let us know! We're looking for multi-year commitment to sustain the seed library in the coming years.
