🎨 Why Don’t I Dye My Products?
Have you ever noticed that 99% of all of my products are completely free of added color? There’s actually a reason for that. Well, a few reasons!
When I started Hackney Rd, I made the decision to skip the dyes, and nine years later, I’ve pretty much stuck with it.
🎨 CONSISTENCY!
I’m constantly making different-sized batches depending on what I need, when I need it, and how much I need to restock. Trying to get the EXACT same shade of pink, purple, or blue every single time? Hard pass! 😂
Yes, my products are handmade, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want them to look professional. I take pride in making products that look like time, thought, and effort went into them. Because they did!
💰 LESS IS MORE!
Dyes mean more supplies to purchase, more inventory to keep on hand, more money spent, and more time added to the production process. When you’re a one-woman operation, those little things add up!
🧴 AND MOST IMPORTANTLY… YOUR SKIN!
Some color additives, particularly certain dyes or those not intended for a specific cosmetic use, can cause irritation or sensitivity. Depending on the formulation, some ingredients may also contribute to clogged pores for certain people.
Now, not all cosmetic dyes are bad or unsafe! There are plenty of approved colorants used safely in skincare products. But if adding color doesn’t serve a purpose in my products, why add another ingredient that isn’t necessary?
🤫 NOW, I DO HAVE A CONFESSION…
I AM guilty of adding a little dye to my wax melts for my holiday bags! 🎄 Those are my one little exception. But outside of those special holiday goodies, you won’t find added dyes in my regular lineup.
But I’m curious…When it comes to candles, wax melts, soaps, lotions, and other handmade goodies, does COLOR matter to you? 🤔
Do you love bright, colorful products? Or do you prefer the simple, natural look and care more about the scent, quality, and how the product performs? There’s no wrong answer! I’m genuinely curious what everyone thinks!
