There is this one day, happens every year
Where weirdos and squares collectively appear
A day to remind you to forget what you know
A day to celebrate our founders first grow
Washington served as our first ever potus
But even old George would celebrate and join us.
Declaration of Independence, thought to be written on h**p.
While not quite what’s true, h**ps not exempt
As the first drafts certainly were, but maybe not final
It’s noteworthy nonetheless, and that’s no denial
But then we got freaked, could not find a way
To tax all of those suckers who got high in the day.
So they banned it and jailed you Just for some herb
A plant from mom nature, Not some chemical slur
Then came the tactics
To ostracize and scare
It worked out for some, but others no care
Then came the 60’s and all hell done broke free
People were smoking from New York to Cali
But still, they would fine you, and make you feel bad
Cost quite a fortune, made taxpayers mad
80’s done came, and while most was just great
The drug war was on and most feared it too late
Battle was lost, or so did it seem
But we all know how that pendulum swings
Then came 420, but where did it start
Cops on a break or kids in a park
Some say it’s Dylan- everyone must get stoned
Some say the Cali kids, avoiding their homes
Whatever it be, it’s not really clear
But what we do know is a day lasts a year
Sure we will use this as our day to rejoice
To collectively exhale freedoms enjoyed
Since now it is legal to smoke and to grow
Many before us, would never know
We take this fine day as ours all alone
The millions of smokers of natures own
Indoor or out, it really don’t matter
Flower or v**e, keif or the shatter
The choices are endless, genetics abound
