"THE PLAZA “Chaos”:
Chaos ➡️ The Plaza ➡️ Reflection
*The Plaza: War, chaos, the chasm that separated East from West of Poland, division, disintegration.

The visitor should experience the Museum Complex ""viscerally."" Just as the War defies understanding, the plaza is not meant to be intellectually understood.

The historical contemplation and the different memorial spaces are the ordering elements of the new urban landscape:

🔘 The FRACTAL nature of the architectural proposal, as well as the functional and experimental logic, leads us to the factual data of the history of Poland, referring to the Polish mathematicians that deciphered the Enigma code, which led to the beginning of the end of the war.

🔘 The north-south CRACK, symbolizes the painful separation of the Polish population, where the east was occupied by the Soviets, and the west by the N***s.

🔘 The Outsider’s Square, the Apathetic corner, Amphitheater of the Spectators uninvolved, indifferent, unconcerned and coldhearted, allowing atrocities to evolve in front of them and the path of the righteous.

🔘 The Bridge of destruction and Chaos.

🔘 The multi-ethnic tapestry. The integration of Gdansk to the Hansiatic League exposed her along the years to a wide variety of cultures and believes, germinating tolerance and coexistence of different ways of life.

🔘 The Forest of DIGNITY, spatial relationship with MEMORY, the Underground Museum.

🔘 The path to SURVIVAL, a children’s playground with thematic games, representing the underground sewer system that was used by children to trade valuables for food.

🔘 Amphitheatre towards the facade of the building; a SCREEN containing 6 million photoelectric cells which are charged by solar energy, lit at night in memory of the 6 million Poles who lost their lives.

War, confusion, is a result of strong polarized forces that clash and confront each other 💥. One may be thought of as Darkness, the other seen as Light.

Two polarized forces which, contain in themselves the seeds of the other. Without this, they could not be able to transform each other.

Dark and Light.

OPPOSED to UNIFY in spite of the tension. If they exceed the limit, the balance is broken and the result will be:
CHAOS.

✨Human beings can make a difference.
✨Consciousness is the key.
✨Free will is the instrument for change.

*This is a project developed in partnership with Ilana Beker arch in 2010 for the International Architecture Competition for the museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk, Poland.
