SP+A Design Team members David Stein, AIA and Kim Delinski, NCIDQ, were proud to join ACES educators, families, and state and town officials for the ribbon-cutting celebration marking the completion of the new ACES Bassett Road School in North Haven after more than four years of planning, design, and construction.

ACES identified the need to redevelop the Bassett Road campus after evaluating two nearby special education programs serving students from preschool through age 22 with physical, emotional, health, and developmental challenges. While the existing building was structurally sound, it lacked the specialized instructional spaces, therapy rooms, recreation areas, parking, and circulation systems needed to support modern special education programming.

As Dr. Thomas Danehy, Executive Director of ACES, noted during the celebration, “Silver/Petrucelli's ability to turn specialized educational and therapeutic needs into a beautiful, functional reality was masterful.”

For SP+A, it has been an honor to partner with ACES throughout this transformational project and help create a space where every student deserves an opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.

Last week SP+A principal David Stein, AIA and designer Eric Cantar helped mark an exciting milestone as construction officially begins on the new fire station for the historic Oswegatchie Fire Company No. 4 in Waterford.

For generations, the Oswegatchie Fire Company has proudly served the Waterford community through the dedication and commitment of volunteer firefighters. As fire service continues to evolve, this new facility represents the next chapter in that proud tradition—supporting a modern hybrid model that combines the strength of volunteer members with career firefighters to provide around-the-clock emergency response and community protection.

The new station will be constructed adjacent to the existing firehouse, allowing emergency operations to remain fully functional throughout construction. Once complete, the modern facility will provide enhanced apparatus accommodations, improved firefighter safety, advanced operational capabilities, and a resilient home for the department's future generations of service.

Congratulations to the Town of Waterford, the Oswegatchie Fire Company, project stakeholders, and everyone whose vision and dedication have helped bring this long-awaited project to life.

We celebrated the groundbreaking for Hartford Public Library’s new Barbour Library in Hartford. The milestone is more than just a kickoff to construction; it follows years of working with HPL leaders to create a community hub of resources, services and books to all ages in an underserved neighborhood. Principal architect Christopher Nardi, AIA and senior designer Todd Conant represented SP+A at the event. What a fantastic project to be part of! Congratulations to HPL, the City of Hartford, and the State of Connecticut for this awesome investment in the North End Community!

Great to have principal David Stein, AIA, represent SP+A in Connecticut Main Street Center’s focus on Wallingford where the firm has completed a number of projects focused on building the community’s downtown area. David commented that SP+A has had the privilege to work in most of Connecticut’s 169 towns and cities. One thing becomes consistently clear: the architecture and character of a downtown often anchor the economic vitality, identity, and perception of that community. Whether it’s a historic New England town center, a revitalized urban corridor, or a growing mixed-use district, strong Main Streets create momentum. They attract investment, support local businesses, encourage community engagement, and reinforce civic pride. https://www.linkedin.com/posts/donaldcrouch_econdevweek-activity-7458522340277174272-dn3D?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop&rcm=ACoAAAJUv80BqvrqDvxE2ToUY-TQCdI6cU6L_Rw

After nearly three years of collaboration, it was great to celebrate the ribbon cutting for Bristol Fire Station No. 3. It’s exciting to see our projects come to life—and even better to experience the strong, positive response from both the client and the community. This station reflects what we strive for in every project: clear planning, durable materials, and architecture that fits its context. Set among historic homes, the building strikes the right balance—modern in expression yet scaled appropriately for the neighborhood. More importantly, the facility supports the health, safety, and mission of the firefighters who serve the community every day.

Great work by the entire team—this is a project to be proud of. As always, good work leads to more work. We’re grateful to continue our partnership with the City of Bristol as we move into additional projects.
