They say wallpaper is coming back.
They are right.
That’s two wallpaper jobs in one week.
This one being by far the COOLEST wallpaper I’ve ever hung.

Today I hung the most complicated sheet of wallpaper that I ever hung.

One sheet had to be carefully measured and sliced into 4 pieces, and all match up. I hung the pieces in the order as they are marked.
This piece had every obstacle I can think of.
-Two different lengths because of the radiator,
-A phone jack/outlet,
-Around a corner,
-Above and below the counter,
-…that has a support underneath,
- A cabinet,
-…with crown moulding.

I must say, I surprise myself sometimes. It came out PERFECT!

It as an art form.
The only two tips I would add are:
1. Take your time, you may need to apply a little bit, wait for it to dry, then apply another bead.
2. Don’t cut the tip at an angle (I’ve seen this suggested). That’s only good if you’re caulking at the same angle ALL THE TIME. Which is never the case. A straight cut allows you to caulk from different angles.

Happy 11 year anniversary to Chet and Son Painting.
I can now officially say that I have been doing this longer than my dad did it.
To celebrate I’ll share some of the FAQ’s I get from my customers.

“Would you like a coffee?”
I have said yes to this but most often it’s a no because I bring plenty of my own. However I appreciate the thought.

“Do you need a (screwdriver, ladder, etc)?”
This answer is always no. Most likely I have more tools in my van than the typical homeowner.
(Including 5 ladders ranging from 2’ up to 28’)

“You don’t use tape?”
Well, yes I do. Most often I use the roll as a door stop, but occasionally I use it to tape something off to prevent paint from getting on trim.

“Do people still wallpaper”
YES. Actually that’s what I’m doing today. And I’ve had more wallpaper jobs this year than the past couple combined. So it’s coming back.

“‘Do you prefer indoor or outdoor work?”
Great question.
I love being outside but it comes with the worst part of my job, planning around the weather. Also there’s a lot more prep (sanding) which can get messy.
So that’s a tough one. My answer could change depending on the job or the weather.

“What are you listening to?”
Another great question.
No I don’t listen to books on tape. I like reading an actual book.
I’m usually listening to a specific artist or I’ll throw my music on shuffle. I have A LOT of music and listen to a wide range of genres, but not country.

If you find yourself in Belchertown for a high school soccer/football/field hockey game, be sure to check out the new and improved snack shack.
Thanks to the School, the Town and the AD for being easy to work with and letting me do the project.
It definitely needed some TLC.
The only thing I didn’t touch was the Oriole on the side. I’m a pretty good painter but I’m not an artist.
Hopefully the kids and the fans can enjoy it for years to come.

Happy ACTUAL 20th anniversary to Chet and Son Painting.
My dad started his business sometime in September 2004.
He was always #1 as you can see.
I would often put tape or wallpaper on his back without him knowing. Just another prank I would pull.

Today is kind of a big day for me. My Dad started Chet’s Painting in 2004 and did it for 10 years.
While I helped him for a couple years prior to taking over/starting Chet And Son Painting, I officially started on this date in 2014. Marking 10 years for me.
Officially my Dad started in September so the 20 year anniversary is coming up.
I take a lot of pride in the fact that I’ve followed in his footsteps and have been busy for 10 years straight. Not only thanks to him for showing me the way, but also thanks to his, and my, great customers for always calling me back and spreading the word about our quality workmanship.
Here’s to 10 years, and 20 coming up.
