HAMPTON – Police are asking the public’s help in locating 37-year-old Elton Stanley, charged with second degree assault in an incident today that sent a victim to the hospital with serious injuries.
According to Hampton Police Chief Alex Reno, Stanley is a suspect in an alleged assault between himself and another individual that took place Thursday, Sept. 28 at the Speedway Gas Station on Lafayette Road (Route 1) in Hampton. Police were called to the business at around 4 p.m. on a report, shut down the gas station to investigate the scene. .
According to Reno, Hampton Fire Department transported one person involved in the incident to the hospital due to serious injuries. That individual remains hospitalized in stable condition.
“Stanley fled the scene, and we’re trying to locate him,” Reno said. “We have a warrant for his arrest on second degree assault and reckless conduct, both felonies. According to the warrant, Stanley allegedly fired a flare gun at the victim, striking him in the face.”
According to Reno, Stanley is described as a 37-year-old, Black man who wears his hair in dreadlocks and who may be riding a bicycle. He is 5-foot, 9-inches tall and weighs about 170 pounds, Reno said, and was last seen wearing black sweat pants and a black hoodie. Reno said Stanley may be homeless.
Reno said due to the nature of the alleged charge, anyone who sees Stanley should keep away from him and inform law enforcement immediately.
“If a member of the public sees this individual, do not approach him,” Reno said. “Just call the Hampton Police Department at 603-929-4444, and give us the information.”
