About two years ago I started making small changes to what I was eating. Mostly because I found myself completely disgusted and turned off by most food that is sold in stores.

Even when we think we are making better food choices we really aren’t. Read those ingredients! Other countries have banned many of the ingredients we allow in our foods and people wonder why they don’t feel good.

What you feed your body affects how you feel. I started 2 years ago with simple changes like making my own coffee creamer because I don’t want oil, yes oil, in my creamer. Last year I added ranch to my make at home list, and I have made my own granola on and off over the years.

I know it’s convenient to buy these items in the store, and I will occasionally still purchase them, never coffee creamer, but it’s just as easy to make them at home and control the ingredients. Often times you already have most of the ingredients, especially if you cook frequently.

So on this cold Feb 1st it’s time for me to restock my granola and check on my winter kale in the garden.

Winter herb preserving today. 🌿

Harvested as much as I could before the snow came through yesterday. It’s one of my favorite herbs and is so good for you. It is a year round staple in my garden. Fall, winter, and through late spring I grow it for the edible leaves and stems. Summer I let it bolt and flower bringing beneficial insects to the summer garden for natural pest control.

Today, I simply cleaned, chopped, mixed with a good olive oil, portioned, and into the freezer. You can also mix with water and freeze if you prefer, however I prefer oil as I think it keeps the flavor better.

Keep growing what you love. ❤️

Spent an overcast Monday working at the community garden. Weeded and fed the garlic bed and finally got all the squash in the ground.

Not a bad Monday at all, happy growing.

Lots of lemon balm and strawberries for sale at the plant swap I’m hosting tomorrow.

They both went crazy in my yard this year, so I decided to dig some up and share my bounty.

This is the latest I have waited to start my seeds in years. Better late than never, and honestly, I always start so many seeds that I run out of room in my house by this time every year.

So this year I’m scaling back how many plants I’m starting and focusing on what we actually eat and the varieties of the plants we are growing.

Round 2 of seeds will start in another 2 weeks with the remainder of my summer veggies.
