Happy Friday! And Welcome to my new followers. I'm glad you found me. I hope to inspire you to make your home beautiful, welcoming and a place for you to feel at peace.

Today especially SEPTEMBER 11 is a very real reminder of the world we live in. I was pregnant with my 2nd daughter in 2001. I couldn't fathom that kind of evil and still can't. But I knew that once my daughter was born, I would do everything possible to stay close and protect my girls as much as I could.

I left a corporate Finance job and focused on making our home a safe place. Decorating and Design was a distraction and hobby. I never considered that I could get paid to do something that came so easily and loved.

Fast forward, that little girl is an adult living in New York City right now.
Wendy Miller Designs celebrated our 10th anniversary. I'm more convinced than ever of the importance of creating a safe haven from outside those walls.

Design can be overwhelming, especially if you are focusing too hard on the smallest details. I need you to step back, zoom out and look at the whole room. That's why I don't start with the worrying about the decor pieces. My first step is really to figure out the function...what isn't working now? Then build a layout and design that works for you....THAT is the destination.

Along the way, we add the layers ...stone, tile, metals, wallpaper, window treatments, etc. This particular bathroom is my Budget bath conversion.. We had small bathrooms and an even smaller budget. Most of our money was spent on things you can't see- replacing electrical, water, insulation...the non sexy stuff and windows.

We found huge marble tiles and Dave cut them to size. A new $64 tub found at ReStore was a savings to offset my splurge on the wallpaper. We used ready made shower glass stall from Home Depot and ceramic tile on sale.

I wish I had the space to make it more grand and the money to make it all marble, but it works. The details come afterward that make me not focus on that. The whimsical wallpaper, personal details and the strong white and navy palette always make me smile, not a room I want to avoid.

Wednesdays are for Wallpaper and Window Treatments. If you want your home to really have that Designer look, start by adding layers. Those finishing touches are how your house becomes a HOME. Your home might feel unfinished. It's probably missing window treatments.

I love a simple crisp linen panel, triple pinch pleated with a classic greek key trim tape. From . Another layer added was this Monogrammed Roman Shade also from Fabricut and personalized locally.

If you're ready to go NEXT level, let's talk about Wallpaper. This has been one of my favorite patterns from "Twiggy" . Florals, solids, geometrics all blend together harmoniously in my designs. Need help in your home? Let's talk!

Few things get me more riled up than bad lighting. For the most part, I can blame builders for this. The cheapest way to light ceilings is with these recessed lights. But that should not be the only lighting source. There are rules.

#1 ceiling should not look like Swiss cheese
#2 should not look like a landing strip. You don’t want your kitchen looking like a basement.
#3 should not be directly over the top cabinet or you won’t get any light at all😳

Today we are working on the lighting which includes carefully placed pendants as well.

The details really do matter.

Our Moody Office is coming together beautifully. I always tell my clients it's like getting dressed. The room gets its own Outfit....What's the event? Where are we going? Different vibes for different rooms.

This is what gets me excited every day, keeps me up at night and gives me joy!

Looking back on one of my favorite projects. As a designer, I know there is always potential. I can see past this, because I've done it before. I see what can be, not what is. I'm not always able to convince people of that. It's hard to let go and trust someone else. I get it. And that's why I'm so grateful when it's a good fit naturally.

The projects that we take are the ones that make us want to get up every day. Today is a really special day. We begin another kitchen. The excitement has been building for months. The preparation and plans are all coming together. Are you ready to see it??? Stay tuned!

Funny story I told my new kitchen client. She had to clean out her cabinets before we can start. She found a brand new KitchenAid mixer and guess who got it??? ME!!!!

Being motivated doesn’t start until you take action in anything. Deciding that you want something different.

I always loved going back to school. I love getting all the new supplies, new clothes, seeing old friends. Summer is almost over and you might not be in school, but you still have time to apply that back to school energy to your home. I absolutely know I make a huge difference in people‘s lives when we remodel homes, especially Kitchens. I cannot wait to share this new one starting September 1.

And yes, having a pretty office does make me happy every day.

This is why I have a huge amount of respect for Real estate agents who can sell clients on "LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION" . There is so much to take in and seeing it in person today left me speechless.
The highlights:
Metal cabinets, bathroom tile on soffit,
the ALL IN ONE area: Pencil sharpener, Bottle opener, Knife holder and Paper towel holder.
The Lighting and electrical package- thoughtfully placed vents and outlets everywhere you don't want to see them. Was this the dream of a preschool teacher? No just a very determined Engineer building his own Masterpiece.
