planning the attack. unknown combination. there's a LOT of hard plate protecting the lock on this and this one. the safe is actually protected on all six sides, even from a torch attack: Rated TRTL30-6. i'll try manipulation first. i'll also see if my autodialer magnets will hold well enuf thru the aluminum escutcheon plate.
the lock is close enough to the right side for a side-drill attack. you usually don't have this kind of access or options available on a big safe.

I opened a Joe Ruth safe today. Joe built his first (and only) safe over 60 years ago.

The Yale deadbolt on the left latches the door closed. The deadbolt on the right controls the handle cam. The combination lock is actually a padlock that controls linkage to the handle cam. The handle cam controls a top and bottom bolt.

Pretty crazy but really not a bad fire safe:

This floor safe with an unknown combo was mounted between the front seats in a Sprinter truck!

Another great feature of this Sentry model (below) is that the combination is stored in the keypad circuit. Remove a small screw beneath the keypad and turn to the left to remove it. Disconnect two wire connectors and install your dial on someone else's safe and open it with your combination. Reverse the procedure for a surreptitious opening. OR just connect a 9 volt battery to one set of those wires going into the safe to activate the solenoid to open it. This model actually advertises it's increased security features.
