Let’s see if we can help out this really great organization in our town!
A call for help (sorry a little long but bear with us): Hopefully most who reside in Harrah Oklahoma, or reside near, or are from Harrah know about the Harrah Historical Society. The society located at 20881 E Main Street (across from the old grain elevator) is operated and directed by volunteers and depends strictly on donations, via membership, personal donations, and occasional grants. Our society is in real danger of extinction within some time at its current pace. Reasons for this are varied. Many of the few curators, volunteer staff and officers are getting up in age. Maintenance of the History Center (museum, depot, old shop etc.) is costly. As frugal as the administrators are, the outflow of funds is currently greater than the inflow. So here is the crux of our message. If today’s event can be shown or even discussed in the future (today is what the future of the year 2010 is) we need support. How, you ask? Of course, funds are important (See our website at www.HarrahHistoricalSociety.com how to donate or become a member). But also volunteering just a few hours, especially from the younger population (yes, 50 is young to most of us), even if only to help with ideas and possible connections for help. The pictorial attached shows the amount of work and funding that went into just one project. The Rock Island Depot is the foundation of the infancy of the Harrah Historical Society. A donation in the amount of one fast food lunch is even very helpful. Thank you for reading this far.
