I'm going to lay it on the table.
I am looking to build a community, not necessarily a physical, live and work together "community" but a group of people, who at least when it comes to food, how food is produced, how it affects our bodies, the soil, the very local ecosystem etc have the same goals and ethics.
I am trying to find these people, help them develop their gardening, farming, food preservation and preparation knowledge and skills as I in turn learn from them.
I am working the best I can towards this goal, for my own health, for my own sanity, and to hopefully leave a legacy to the next generations, though I have no children of my own.
I am also working the best I can towards this goal, because at some point in the future, near or moderate future, I plan on a major undertaking on 140 acres of currently conventional row crop farm land, to reverse the trend of soil and ecosystem degradation and extraction to one or more methods of nutrient dense, poison free, soil building, soul building food production.
This is no neo-hippy, woo-woo tree hugging, tie-dye wearing pie in the sky feelings over reality effort, but one built on tried and true, the outcomes validate the efforts and techniques, using generational knowledge bolstered by good science, be that done by lettered academics or thoughtful engaged citizens.
And if the signs indicate the efforts are "successful" (by our metrics not "conventional commercial" metrics, to expand these efforts as far and wide as possible.
For this.. I am going to need help, potentially in time a lot of help.
So my community building, is simultaneously a vetting process to find those people, those families of the next generation or two, who will help me now, learn with me now, and carry on the mantle after I am gone and have become part of the nutrient cycling.
At this exact time, my ability to be out on the land, in the sun, swapping sweat, building callouses is limited due to family obligations, however that will not last forever. During this time I am though available extensively at a computer, so zoom type calls can be a way to begin conversations, trade information, hold conference calls, engage with leaders in whatever topic and even provide group or 1:1 training, what I know so that when I am free, we can hit the ground running even faster.
In the meantime I can share my knowledge and experiences to help plan and stand up personal gardens, community gardens, market gardens, and whatever else.
And when we can meet in person, it will be nice to press those calloused hands together in friendship, and then get them dirty while we continue our conversations and sharing.
