⚠️ Community Wildlife Reminder ⚠️
This is the time of year when young raccoons begin leaving their den sites and following their mothers in search of food. As a result, residents may notice an increase in raccoon activity throughout the community.
Bird feeders, pet food left outdoors, garbage, and compost can quickly attract raccoon families looking for an easy meal. Unfortunately, this often leads to overturned feeders, scattered garbage, property damage, and other nuisance issues for homeowners.
Pet owners should also be aware that unexpected encounters between raccoons and pets can occur, particularly when young raccoons are accompanying their mothers. A startled raccoon may react defensively if surprised.
Residents can expect to see more raccoon activity over the coming weeks as this year’s young continue exploring beyond their den sites.
