Not every window opens the same way, and that difference matters more than you’d expect.

Casement windows swing outward on a hinge, which means the sash itself catches air and steers it into the room instead of letting it slide along the wall. On this project we went with Andersen Windows + Doors E-Series casements, and we added sash restrictors sized to the opening and its height off the floor.

In this renovation, that meant a set of massive cast-iron pocket doors that hadn't worked in years. Our carpenter got the original gear-driven system running again, so the house keeps the character that made it special in the first place.
