Misty's Meadows

Misty's Meadows We have decided in the best interest of our farm that we will not be doing the farm stand this year.

Due to the large projects that we need to get done on the farm.We apologize,it was not an easy decision. Thanks for understanding We have a variety of different types of Tomato plants for sale. All plants have been grown locally on our horse farm in our greenhouse. Every plant has been "hardened" off and is ready to be planted outside in the gardens the day it is purchased. We take great pride in o

ur plants and want our customers to be as happy with them as we are. No matter what size the plant is we are asking only $1.00 per plant. This is our fourth year of being open and we are hoping for many more years to come, we are looking to create that customer we make so satisfied that you come back year after year.

So I have been getting questions of if we will be opening or not this year. Last year I had made the announcement that we were taking year off with the intent of being back at it this year. The beautiful messages sent from some truly warmed my heart and I held them close. The week the announcement was made, my mom sustained a very serious ankle injury and a few days after her surgery we suddenly lost one of our beloved pets. The messages I received of how inconvenient it was now gonna be, I am sorry there was nothing convenient about last summer for me either. But I thought about the stand all winter and what I wanted to do. Sadly I have choosen to retire the stand. If I had the stand last year I would have either had to donate all the plants to somewhere or I would have lost them all before the stand would have ever opened. As much as we enjoyed the stand, it truly is alot of work and the care of my family will always come first. I will always be here for anyone to talk garden I wish you all well and hope we all have an incredible garden season. And thank you for all those kind words last year, you can’t imagine how uplifting it all was. ❤️
…. Mom and Dad are all doing well. Picture is for attention - this is one of the “babies” who’s now two.

First I wanna apologize that this post is so late and I have a bunch of messages to respond to still. My mom dislocated and fractured her ankle last week, we have had a bunch of appointments preparing for surgery next week …. So it’s been a crazy exhausting week on the farm. I am truly sorry, I simply haven’t had the time to respond with everything going on. Sooo…

The last year has been great but very busy. Taking the spring off from the stand last year allowed me to do many things including adopt two orphan foals. Which has been amazing but also incredibly chaotic. I have attempted three different times earlier this spring to start the plants for my garden and the stand this year - everytime somehow life seems to throw me a curve ball…so my greenhouse suffered because it was always my last stop to get things done. I typically can grow a tomato with zero effort and this year - I just struggled with trying to juggle everything. So there is no stand this year. I am hoping to be able to even pull off my personal garden this year.
…. I have been following some plant sales that will be happening around the areas - I will post screen shots in the comments and everyone is more than welcome to post any suggestions here. For me it’s about everyone being able to garden. I was hoping to get to some of these this weekend but unfortunately am working extra shifts.
…. For everyone who is concerned - my family is still doing well, everyone is healthy with the expectation of moms bum ankle. The horses - yes we still have our two older girls. They are doing great. They have taken in the two little boys very well. The boys are not little anymore - they are officially a year old this week. I know some knew about out dogs - they all are doing well. Our oldest basset hound is also doing very well with his diabetic diagnosis. Mom has done an amazing job making sure he is well taken care of.

Its starting to feel as spring is finally arriving and it will be garden time soon. So to answer everyone’s question – we have decided not to have the farm stand this year.
This has been a very hard decision for us, we already miss not doing it. However, we have a lot happening on the farm this year and some big projects we have had to make a top priority. We do all our work ourselves, so it takes a little more time for us to power though the larger projects.
Just so no one worries – mom and dad, our horses, dogs and bees are all doing well. If things go right this spring, we will have a new adopted addition to our barn (one of my big projects) and hoping to expand our bee hives (I started the bees last year just for fun).
There are some amazing road side stands here in town – I ask that you check them out too (some even last year donated the proceeds to their charities). I also recommend The Farm, located in Chepachet, I have visited their stand in the fall and they were incredibly kind (they have a page and you can order online I believe). I want to thank every who has supported our stand last year and the years before. Last year especially, you all were so kind to help support in memory of our friend, we ended up raising $2000 which helped many animals. Your generosity and kind words were incredibly uplifting and we can not thank you enough. As always if there are any questions through out the season – I am still here for you all, I am still growing - just have had to seriously downsize this year. I may be a little slower this year, I am once again studying (working towards certifications) and still working full time plus my beloved farm.

Thanks to everyone who has stopped by and support the Marvin Fund donation. We still have plenty of varieties and quantities left waiting to get planted. Our stand is open everyday from 9-7, all our plants are $1. They are all heirloom varieties. This year the entire stand is being donated to the Marvin Fund at the RI SPCA in memory of our beloved friend, Doc. With the intense heat coming, this could very well be the last weekend of the stand.

We open tomorrow morning 9am. We will be open every day for the next few weeks (roughly 9-7). This is the general list for the stand. And again, the entire stand is going to a great cause that helps animals.

As of right now I do not have a large selection beyond tomatoes. If you are looking for something specific please just ask - I am still organizing. We will have a small amount of peppers this year compared to last years. Unfortunately I had been very sick (non COVID) earlier this year and I fell behind on a lot of my extra garden stuff (like my peppers, eggplant ....). So this year as of right now we are majority of tomatoes. If more of my stuff germinates while the stand is open I will be more than happy to put the extras out like I normally do.

The long awaited post. The stand will open on May 22nd, 9am. And once again entire stand is being donated this year to the Marvin Fund. (Explanation in comments)

Staying with the tradition of the stand and the memory of my memere (my grandmother) the stand will continue this year. Thus assuring that everyone can enjoy having tomato plants again this year. In memory of my families generations of growing tomatoes, our plants are still $1.

HOWEVER there is one thing that will change this year. This past year has been challenging and we have always done the stand in memory of my previous family members. This past fall we lost an adopted family member who was so unbelievably influential to our family. I am still shocked at times I don’t see him along our fence line. This year everything from the stand is being donated to the Marvin Fund in memory of our beloved friend and neighbor, Dr Fi*****io. The Marvin fund was created in memory of his beloved black lab and helps raise money to help less fortunate pets, either by waiving adoption fees, providing medical care or even food so the pet can stay with its owners.

It’s time for a last call. It’s been an amazing experience at the stand this year and we can’t thank you all enough for it. This will be the last weekend the plant stand is open, on Monday I will start the planting of what’s left on the stand. My uncle has dropped off some of his extra plants - which includes some San Marzano, white Queens, sun gold cherry, and yes some of the Snow White cherry. If you are unable to make it but would still like plants or get additional plants please message me here. Like always we will do everything we can to try to help. Like normally we keep the stand open daily from 9 to 7 (hours a very rough ideas - we are typically out somewhere on our farm).

Edited ..... sorry we found another tray of Snow White so we are low on them but not out at the moment.

FYI. We are officially out of Snow White cherry tomato plants. We do still have plenty of cherry tomato plants left ... but have sold out of Snow White. (Sorry, the demand for them went higher than normal).

So the changes to the stand -
Please bring a box or container if you feel you will need one. In the past I have had boxes on hand from going to stores and getting them - I was unable to do that this year due to the craziness of life and the stores.

The location of the stand has moved further down our driveway to accommodate parking - you can easily park on the road and do not need to come down our driveway (trust me I realize how tight the turn around is at the bottom).

And lastly, whether or not you believe in Covid (I work in the public and understand people believe in different things) - my mom and dad are what is classified as high risk due to their age and I am very protective of them. They are helping me out with the stand while I am at work - So please don't take a little distance or less talking (or NO hand shaking) the wrong way. Please respect distances between people and if for some reason it gets crowded we will help manage it where everyone gets their plants.

The most important part that never changes - enjoy your gardens. Thanks Missy

I have had a lot of questions over the past week, with having a lot of new people inquiring so I figured it was time again to reintroduce who we are. We are a small horse farm in which I have really been raised with gardening - growing tomatoes has been a family tradition going back many generations. I have somehow widened the tradition a bit - I grow a lot more varieties than my grandparents and I try to grow more than simply tomatoes. But I have to emphasis our stand is mainly a tomato stand. This is our sixth year with our plant stand, we decided a while back to do it in memory of my grandparents - gardening is suppose to be something everyone can do, it helps put food on our tables. Everything is grown here on the farm and is all handled by my parents, my husband, my uncle and I - it is truly a family thing. Typically I try to keep at least 30 varieties at the stand (I have the ability to grown well over 500 varieties - It truly is my sickness/weakness). When I stress out - I focus on my garden - this is a year round process for me. This years stress was a bit different than normal - for all of us. So I planted...and according to my dad I planted and planted. This is more than likely a partial list if what is/will be at the stand - I have spent the past two days working setting it up and I am not done yet. Like always we keep it at $1 a plant, because thats tradition. We open tomorrow - please spread the word (this way my dad doesn't have to keep reminding me that I stressed out). We wish everyone good health - and will be making another announcement of how the stand will function this year, some minor things have changed.
