I spent about a half hour talking with Adam Novitt yesterday. About 5 years ago he did a very entertaining video about the Taranov Split - which would be an easy and effective way to move bees from your existing hives (Langstroth perhaps) into the Layen's style Ez-Bees hive. It would also help you multiply hives in a way that mimics natural swarming. I'm hoping to do a Zoom interview with Adam for some Q&A. Here is the video -

The plan for this spring is to work with my local bee keepers, Dane County Beekeepers Association, to make sure there are bees in the boxes. Joe is advising me on swarm capture (he just told me to get some Swarm Commander and it should be coming tomorrow). Our hives do not require treatment-free nor do they require a beekeeper to convert to layens hives - in fact, the boxes actually can be configured for langstroth frames...
