This is so awesome, I just had to share it. Literally my childhood dream come to life. I think you could maybe add some tea lights to make it change in a ballroom?

My daughter is doing minis! The lens bigger than your head, the camera body more expensive than my truck, the talented Lindsay Meeker taking the pics at a fraction of the typical photo package!

Somebody left a piece of jewelry in the shop. If you are missing something, send me a description of it. I don’t know that it’s particularly valuable, but it is engraved and might be very sentimental.

These are the costumes we created to replace the missing ones for the horror movie.

The many times my oldest daughter and I have contemplated collaborating on a project, we never imagined making a movie, but here we are.

The phone rang late one afternoon, it was a woman named Rachel with a costume crisis. There were some fittings scheduled for the next hour, so she agreed to come a little later, to discuss her situation and show us what she needed. The fittings ran longer than expected and she sat in the shop chatting with my oldest daughter, using photo/film lingo, which I mostly just pretend to understand.

Turns out Rachel needed replacement costumes for a horror movie, the originals have been lost in transit. They already have footage in the original costumes, so we needed to reproduce them from photos and measurements, for the next shoot scheduled in two weeks. I was able to borrow a few pieces from Thornapple Players costume room and had to construct a few more. Not going to lie, the pieces we made are not fancy at all, we didn’t design anything, but we had a lot of fun all the same. We made/assembled costumes for 5 characters called “The Wickeds”.

Once the replacements were ready, Lindsay packed up her car with costumes and sewing kit/equipment and drove to Calumet to deliver and fit the costumes. She stayed a couple of days to assist with the production and took some behind the scenes photos too!

I’m typically not a horror film person. My imagination is very vivid and so are my nightmares. Lindsay says I won’t be able to watch all of this one either because the actress on set was SOOOO good that it was disturbing to watch in person and will be even more so edited and on the big screen. Here is a trailer.

This beautiful bride is Molly and her junior bridesmaid Grace (in lavender). She came to the shop with a dress that fit pretty well, but originally it was sleeveless, it needed a hem, a take in at the shoulder, a bustle and she wanted sleeves added that were also detachable. Lace has become a little scarce in the supply chain of late, the majority of it is imported. Lace also is proprietary and manufacturers will only sell it to the company that owns the design until the patten expires, so finding an exact match in a retail or wholesale store is impossible. But if the color is very close and the sheen of the embroidery is similar, and the pattern has similar elements (flowers, leaves, waves, curlicues, etc) nobody ever notices that they aren’t an exact match. She didn’t send us a picture of the bustle, (nobody ever does 😂) but it’s adorable. Her train was fairly short, 5”-6” in length. So her bustle was mid calf and is essentially a little row of swags added to the bottom to the skirt.
