We are a small market garden bordering the Buffalo National River in Hasty, Arkansas. We sell our produce at the Farmers Market in Jasper, Arkansas.

Today we were setup at Karen Fancher's 2026 Lavender Festival on her farm in Compton, Arkansas. Over the years I've grown more and more to appreciate local artisans and farmers and this event was very nice. The event had over 40 vendors with lots of local unique products and produce you won't find anywhere else. Plus you could pick your own amazing Lavender bouquet. How fun is that. I wish you could smell this fresh Lavender.

Jasper Arkansas, Farmers Market June 9th, 2026. Thanks to everyone who came out today. We had 5 vendors join us today. It was very hot, but we had a good time. Tuesdays and Fridays will probably shape up to be our main days this summer for vegetable produce at the market.

Potatoes are my favorite vegetable in the garden and homemade French fries are the best. This year I planted around 110 pounds of seed potatoes and here is a look at this years potatoes from start to finish. I'm officially starting my market season this Tuesday, June 9th. I will now have produce the rest of the season at the Jasper Farmers Market starting with potatoes, garlic and homemade Strawberry Jam from our farm. This years varieties are Red La Soda, Irish Cobbler and Huckleberry Gold. The Huckleberry Gold seed potatoes come from Wood Prairie Farm in Maine and were very expensive. They cost me $8 a pound, at 20lbs it was almost $160. They are a specialty purple-blue potato high in antioxidants and these potatoes will cost more unfortunately due to their higher purchase cost. My favorite way to grow potatoes are in my old stock tanks. (pictures included) I did plant several rows in raised beds as well. The Huckleberry Gold potatoes are not quite ready yet and will still need two more weeks to grow.

Here's a look at the current tomato plants. I have 119 plants growing right now and my varieties are Big Beef, Celebrity Plus, Carolina Gold, Crimson Giant, Cherokee Purple and Sun Gold cherry tomato. Many folks have commented on the rising tomato prices in the store. Gasoline and Diesel play a huge part in the rising prices of produce. (and inflation across the board) I usually charge the same price as the store, but my produce is locally grown with organic and natural processes. I grow most of my tomato plants in 4ft cages. I am growing Sun Gold Cherry tomatoes on a single line trellis system in the greenhouse. I plant marigolds next to all my tomato plants as they repel some unwanted bugs and pests( including deer) and also draw in beneficial bugs as well. I should start to see the first ones ready for market around July 1st.

The Elephant Garlic has been harvested. We took it about a week earlier this year due to the excess moisture in our area the last two weeks. As it matures garlic stalks will begin to rot at the base if the soil is too wet. The first picture is two racks of three total we harvested. It's a good idea to let your garlic dry on the stalk for at least a week. We then trim it down to about 6 inches and remove the roots. It will then dry in this state for about two more weeks. It can then be left on a short stalk or completely trimmed down to the bulb. Most Elephant Garlic has very mild flavor and it's closely related to the Leek family. Many folks like the bigger cloves of elephant garlic, because their easier to slice up.

The German Soft Neck Garlic and Elephant Garlic are looking pretty good. It was planted on September 27th, 2025. The Elephant Garlic should be ready to pull in about three weeks and the German Soft Neck takes a few weeks longer. It takes another three weeks to dry and prepare for the farmers market. This is around 1300 plants.

I don't think I am cut out to be a farmer. Did anyone else get two inch hail today at there place? Thank the Lord, he spared my tomatoes, strawberries, garlic and potatoes. There was damage, but it could have been a lot worse. I did get away from the farmers market today at 11am before the storm hit. So I was able to keep my tent dry.

I like to encourage everyone to come out to the Ozark Living Expo 2026 "Shindig" at the Newton County Fairgrounds in Jasper, AR. on Saturday April 25th, 2026. If you like learning about self sufficiency and homesteading then you will love this gathering. There are many fascinating demonstrations and presentations this year. I was able to spend some time today with a few and was blown away by the talent and knowledge of this year presenters. I'm giving another talk on gardening in the Ozarks at 4pm tomorrow. Here are two pictures from Tuesdays, Jasper Farmers Market and today's tent at the "Shindig". I still have plenty of tomato, pepper and strawberry plants for sale as well.

Jasper Farmers Market Tuesday, April 13th and Friday April 17th. Thank you to everyone who came out this week. I'll be at the Jasper market on Tuesday April 21st and I'll be at the Newton County Ozark Expo "Shindig" on Friday April, 24th and Saturday the 25th. I will be bringing several hundred tomatoes, peppers, stevia and strawberry plants to the "Shindig".

I will be bringing about 15 heads of broccoli to the Jasper farmers market on Tuesday, April 14th. Their are lots of things happening all at once on the farm currently and to say we are busy would be an understatement. I've planted some tomatoes and potatoes and have over a thousand seedlings I'm preparing for the market and Newton County Ozark Living Expo "ShinDig" on April 24th and 25th at the Newton County Fairgrounds. Oh, and something red is starting to ripen.
