AM Sunrise is a solid house with GREAT construction and gourmet kitchen. Its decor however was just left unattended and rather beige throughout so we took on the task of painting and updating furniture over the 2018 Labor Day weekend....and it was a laborious weekend for sure. I will post before pictures in a bit.

All, it is with a heavy heart that I share with you that Terry and I sold Inner Peace so that we could exchange our lovely beach condo to a lovely beach house.....just up the street. I believe the new owners of Inner Peace will NOT be continuing to rent the property after this year. So, if you need a larger beach rental, you can now look forward to renting our new house with a boat slip, hot tub and ocean and sound views in Hatteras Village (yes, with comfy mattresses). 4 bebdrooms / 3.5 baths. I am converting this page over from Inner Peace to AM Sunrise and I will be posting pictures of the property to share with you. We look forward to having you as our guests should you need or want to rent a bit larger place.

Tropical Storm / Maria - flooding will be our issue later today and tomorrow. Staying positive that south HI won't incur any major damage this year.

From 6am NWS briefing:

No major changes.

Sustained winds will be mid 40's, gusts higher.

Sound flooding 2-4ft above ground which should peak early afternoon tomorrow till evening for Hatteras Village. Flooding threat highest for our area south end of HI and Ocracoke.

Rising steadily through then.

Obviously ocean overwash issues a given at this point.

YAY. Transmission power has been restored!!

Dare County officials have lifted the mandatory evacuation for all visitors to Hatteras Island, beginning at noon on Friday. All electricity conservation appeals for Hatteras Island have been lifted.

Today makes a week since the power outage. Below is an update on status....our CHEC crews and their partners are amazing. Summary...1 to 2 days before guests can come back. Feeling super disappointed for my guests last week and this week...but we want you to come back so reach out if u lost time or money. Pray and keep your fingers crossed for our incoming guests this Sunday.

Dear CHEC Member,

Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative and contract crews continue to construct a new overhead line to restore transmission power to Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands as quickly and safely as possible.


Overhead Progress: Crews worked late into the night to connect the new overhead cables to the grid. That work is expected to be complete this morning and the cooperative will begin to energize the new line.

Next Steps: The new line will need to stay energize for several hours while the cooperative tests the cables. After testing, CHEC will begin to gradually introduce electrical load to the line. Resident on Hatteras Island in the villages of Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon and Buxton will experience outages while the cooperative works to take these circuits off of generator power and energize them with the repaired transmission line. The cooperative will work to give these villages notice of impending outages.

Timeframe: The restoration timeframe from this point forward is 1-2 days. CHEC is working with Dare County officials to coordinate the safe return of visitors as soon as possible.
