Giving new life to existing structures isn’t just sustainable—it anchors a home in its site’s history.

For this new accessory dwelling unit (ADU), we designed directly on the footprint and foundation of an original barn. While adaptive reuse preserves character and minimizes site disruption, having a structural engineer inspect and sign off on existing foundations is an essential first step before framing ever begins.

Swipe through to see some different flavors:
1. Classic Barn Red with crisp white trim
2. Forest Green for a seamless landscape blend
3. Natural Vertical Wood siding for an organic, timeless feel

A new attic ensuite for the ages!

When designing a primary suite, committing to a finish palette can feel daunting. That’s why we’ve integrated AI visualization tools into our design workflow.

A quick note on how we approach this: AI doesn’t replace the architect. It can’t calculate clearances, detail custom millwork, specify plumbing fixtures, or understand exactly how light hits a room at 8 AM vs. 4 PM. Every spatial relationship, dimension, and material choice you see here was designed by us first.

Instead, AI acts as another powerful tool in our toolbox—transforming our architectural plans and material selections into realistic, atmospheric visualizations in minutes. It allows our clients to test bold ideas, compare finishes side-by-side, and make critical design decisions with complete confidence before construction starts.

Natural wood or solid color cabinet? Which option would you choose? Neither?

Swipe to see both, and let us know in the comments. 👇 or save this post for your future bath remodel inspiration.

Design decisions are tough—especially when you’re forced to start over.

When these homeowners came to us, they were feeling disheartened after a frustrating experience with their original design-build team. They had a decaying, undersized deck and an outdated two-story addition full of small, closed-off rooms that just didn’t suit modern living.

We stepped in to help them hit the reset button and re-establish their vision:

🔹 Reimagined Spatial Flow: Replaced small, cramped rooms with a expansive, light-filled two-story addition that seamlessly connects the main living areas to the outdoors.
🔹 Critical Coordination: Resolved key structural challenges to support opening up the floor plan.
🔹 End-to-End Alignment: Connected the homeowners with a trusted, top-tier builder who is ready to bring every detail to life.

By visualizing every detail in 3D—from rooflines and eave returns down to lighting and post placements—our clients made confident design choices *before* breaking ground.

Construction is officially underway on our garage connection and addition project! 🛠️✨A smooth transition into construction and great progress being made thanks to Big Island Pond Remodeling

Design isn’t just about making spaces look beautiful today—it’s about anticipating how a family will live tomorrow. For this project, our clients needed a functional, covered mudroom transition to bridge the main house and the detached garage. But we took it one step further: Age-in-Place Architecture. 🏡

We carefully designed this transition for immediate everyday comfort while discreetly embedding future accessibility features. As the homeowners grow older, they’ll be able to navigate their home safely, comfortably, and independently—without compromising on aesthetics.

Good architecture adapts to you, through every stage of life. 📐❤️

💬 What’s one feature in your home you wish was designed for long-term accessibility? Let us know below!

Behind the scenes on our lakehouse full-gut renovation! 🔨🌊

Progress on-site is moving fast, and this stage is where the magic (and heavy lifting) happens. Swipe through to check out how this transformation is taking shape:

1️⃣ Roofline Overhaul & Framing: We’re altering the existing rooflines and leveling out the floor plan to create seamless, open spaces with structural integrity.

2️⃣ Framing for the View: Reconfiguring rooflines to enhance frame-worthy views! Maximizing connection to the lake from every primary living space was job #1.

3️⃣ Building Envelope & Weatherization: Wrapping the shell in a modern air/weather barrier and meticulously flashing every single critical junction.

4️⃣ Correcting Past Work: Fixing existing moisture damage from previous additions so this home stays airtight, watertight, and built to last for generations.

5️⃣ Material Selections: Swatching exterior finishes on-site to confirm texture, contrast, and color under natural sunlight before final installation.

Great design isn’t just about how a house looks on move-in day—it’s about building a durable, resilient envelope behind the walls that protects the home (and your investment) for decades.

What happens when a piece of local history vanishes? 🏭✨

Our latest blog post examines the story of Haverhill’s historic Little River Mill at Lafayette Square—and why preserving our industrial fabric matters now more than ever.

Beyond brick and mortar, existing buildings hold carbon, character, and massive potential for workforce housing, local retail, and public green space. The proposed revitalization shows how thoughtful design can turn a loss into a vibrant, community-centered hub connected by transit and nature. 🌿🚆

📖 Read the full piece to explore how we can build stronger, more sustainable neighborhoods by honoring our past.

Ever wondered what it actually takes to get a project approved by the Zoning Board? 🏛️📐

Success comes down to one thing: proving your case through visual clarity.

Swipe through to see the types of drawings we put together for the ZBA on our latest renovation project:

1️⃣ Existing vs. Proposed Floor Plans: Showing how the spatial layout evolves while respecting footprint boundaries.

2️⃣ Exterior Elevations: Mapping out exact ridge heights, roof pitches, and massing.

3️⃣ Dimensional & Area Calculations: The precise site coverage, floor area ratio (FAR), and setback metrics required by the board.

4️⃣ Exterior Perspectives: Highlighting how the new dormers harmonize with the existing neighborhood scale rather than overpowering it.

Getting a variance or special permit isn’t just about filling out paperwork—it’s about translating complex zoning codes into clear, compelling drawings that build trust with the board.

Without detailed documentation, approval delays can stall a project for months before construction even starts.

“Can’t you just draw up a quick floor plan?” 😅

That scrolling stack isn’t just floor plans. That is a full set of permit and construction documents—the ultimate roadmap for a seamless build.

Here’s why a “simple floor plan” isn’t enough to bring your dream home to life:

📐 Design is only Step 1: Yes, we design beautiful, functional spaces tailored to your life. But translating that vision into reality requires structural, material, and code coordination.

🔍 Clear Scope = Accurate Bids: Detailed drawings leave no stone unturned. When contractors see every junction, specification, and dimension clearly mapped out, you get precise, realistic estimates—not wild guesses.

🛡️ Change Order Protection: Vague plans lead to mid-construction surprises (and unexpected expenses). A fully coordinated set protects your timeline and your budget.
An architect doesn’t just sell drawings; we deliver clarity, predictability, and peace of mind.

From disjointed design to a unified lakefront oasis. 🌊✨

Watch to the end to see this massive design transformation! What once felt like two completely separate structures pieced together is now a singular, modernized retreat.

For this lake cottage renovation, we completely reimagined the entire footprint:

All-New Exterior: Swapped out the dated finishes for a striking mix of dark grey lap siding and natural wood.

Redesigned Entryway & Living Spaces: Opened up and unified the main living area to seamless blend the home’s architecture and maximize those incredible lake views.

🏡 Our Favorite Part of the Process? Helping our clients see the future before breaking ground.

By utilizing realistic 3D visualizations early on, we can test out materials, tweak lighting concepts, and answer the difficult design questions together. It allows our clients to make critical decisions with total confidence—saving them from costly rework during construction.

Ready to unlock the true potential of your home without the guesswork? Let’s visualize it together.
