Sundew's Tuesday Tip: Hand harvesting Potato Beetles from the Potato crop can be fun, you can make a speed picking competition, whomever picks the most in a certain amount of thyme wins, or maybe the first to 200 beetles picked wins, either way everyone wins. Great exercise as well, as it sure tones up those arms! Bonus for exercising the stacking functions principle of permaculture and feeding them to the fish in the adjacent pond! Zing! Alas, here's a serious article about some serious pests in the garden and how to vanquiche them:) Happy Tuesday y'all

Sundew's Saturday Landcare Tip: Watering in your newly planted Shrubs and Trees is vital to their long-term health and wellness, typically they should receive a drink of 10-15 gallons a week to ensure proper healthy growth, the more sand there is in the soil, the less water is retained in the roots, therefore, watering should be increased in sandy soils. But dont take my word for it, check out this article put out by the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County ! As always, stay cool out there and hydrate your own roots with plenty of that good water, have a fantastic weekend!

Sundew's Thirsty Thursday Tip of the Day: When encountering American Bamboo on the land, the best practice is to cut it on the bottom (basal pruning) & water it in. When it grows to 6" repeat this step. & keep repeating a few more times. As they grow via their rhizome root system, every subsequent harvest will weaken the root zone and eventually the plant will pass on. Keep Shining Keep Smiling

Sundew's Tuesday Tip of the Day: Clover & Dandelions are good plant to keep in your lawn, they are nitrogen fixers, bringing N from deeper earth to the surface for the relatively shallow turf grass roots, proper management will help bring your turf grass to a more balanced state clover & dandy lions are great for the pollinators , young Dandylion greens are amazing in a spring salad , flowers may be dried to make tea or wine , roots may be dried cleaned & ground up to make coffee ... aesthetically the yellows, whites & purples from the flowers compliment the green grass nicely, hope you have a superb day:)
