I had my whole day planned out, working in the field and planting seedlings, and my mind and body focused on the task. Then my non-flower-loving but nature-enjoying husband texted me, asking if we should go to the botanic gardens.
That was unusual for him. I wondered if he knew something I didn't. π€ I stopped working and checked my email. It turned out that the Co**se flower was blooming!
I was thrilled and immediately got the kids ready. We drove to the garden, hurried to the flower location, and as soon as we walked in, we were hit with death. The Titan Arum's smell was like that of dead bodies, or even worse. They say it resembles rotting meat, which attracts the flower's pollinators, but to me, it was disgusting. Although the smell became less noticeable the longer I stayed, my kids and husband strongly disagreed.
The currently has 2 Titan Arum or Co**se flowers, Sumatra and Spike. Sumatra bloomed at just 6 feet tall and started blooming 12 hours earlier than scheduled according to the garden. Spike is still growing and might reach over 6 feet, with its bloom expected next week.
This unique flower takes 3 to 10 years to mature from a seedling. The life cycle of Titan Arum flower could last as little as 6 years or as long as 15, all for a stinking 24 to 36-hour bloom time.
Have you ever seen a Co**se flower in person?
