The end of last season was quite challenging here at Trojan House. A severe storm swept through, causing significant damage to our flower crops. Additionally, we experienced the heartbreaking loss of our beloved family dog, Hazel, who passed away unexpectedly at a young age. As these events happened one after another, we decided to end the growing season early and take some time for reflection.

The beautiful Virginia Bluebells symbolize humility, gratitude, and renewal, reminding us to embrace new beginnings as we enter our fourth growing season.

Brought some beauties into the house for myself.

I'm trialing a new type of sunflower this year and I think I really like it. Teddy Bear sunnies just look so cuddly.

As Glass Animals puts it, 'But I love it when the light sits on you just right.'
Totally Tangerine is simply gorgeous! Although this dahlia isn't as big as some others, it's still an absolute showstopper!

I had my whole day planned out, working in the field and planting seedlings, and my mind and body focused on the task. Then my non-flower-loving but nature-enjoying husband texted me, asking if we should go to the botanic gardens.

That was unusual for him. I wondered if he knew something I didn't. πŸ€” I stopped working and checked my email. It turned out that the Co**se flower was blooming!

I was thrilled and immediately got the kids ready. We drove to the garden, hurried to the flower location, and as soon as we walked in, we were hit with death. The Titan Arum's smell was like that of dead bodies, or even worse. They say it resembles rotting meat, which attracts the flower's pollinators, but to me, it was disgusting. Although the smell became less noticeable the longer I stayed, my kids and husband strongly disagreed.

The currently has 2 Titan Arum or Co**se flowers, Sumatra and Spike. Sumatra bloomed at just 6 feet tall and started blooming 12 hours earlier than scheduled according to the garden. Spike is still growing and might reach over 6 feet, with its bloom expected next week.

This unique flower takes 3 to 10 years to mature from a seedling. The life cycle of Titan Arum flower could last as little as 6 years or as long as 15, all for a stinking 24 to 36-hour bloom time.

Have you ever seen a Co**se flower in person?

I was once at a farmers market walking around and a person next to me at a stall had a Ladybug larva on them and they freaked out. Luckily, I knew what they had on them and was able to save the larva before it was killed.
Ladybugs don't get enough appreciation for all they do and most only know them in their cute little bug form.

We normally have several sets of bird nests around the farm. Typically out of range of the dog's fence - for good reason when you have a bird dog on the farm, but this sweet American Robin decided to nest in the tree next to the front door. Yes, our bird dog knows it's there.

When we see mom or dad on the nest we make sure to stay out of the area. From time to time when they are gone, we'll get to take a quick photo peek at who's hatched. It's been loads of fun watching them grow and change and soon we know they will be gone. πŸ•Š
