With all the snow and ice on the ground right now, the last thing you’re thinking about is your grass and your lawn. But we’re here to tell you, you should be thinking about it all through winter!

Why? Because, what you do now, will have repercussions come Spring. When the snow has melted, and you’re anxiously waiting for the lawn to turn green, you may be seriously disappointed and may have some problems to boot!

The first thing we recommend is to limit the amount of salt you use around your lawn. This will burn the edges. Instead use products labeled OK for grass.

Secondly, try to limit the snow piles. This increases soil compaction and smothers grass until it melts away giving you those awful brown spots.

Also, try to avoid scraping the grass with the snow plow or snow blower. This will lead to bare patches.

Make an effort to not drive on the lawn. Grass cannot repair itself while it’s dormant and vehicles of all types can leave tracks which may be there until June!

This also applies to toys and furniture left on the lawn over Winter. Not only will this smother the grass, but it may cause early Spring lawn diseases as well.

Take care of your lawn throughout every season, and it will take care of you!
