The state’s response to the weather is the worst we’ve ever seen. 24” was predicted and the official total was 6.5”. Had we actually gotten 2’ of snow we’d be in serious trouble and all the hoarders and panic buying would be warranted. Given, the majority was ice, but the plows work the same. Only difference is after the accumulation is removed the roads need to be treated with rock salt like it was 1985 again.
I’m sorry to report that due to the state’s horrific response, road conditions will likely be too dangerous for work. We travel an average of 200 miles per day. Main roads are usually fine by the time we come out, but every storm it’s the same thing; side roads are untreated and sheets of ice. People tend to not shovel their driveways and walkways and we end up soaking wet and stuck somewhere. Tow companies gouge commercial vehicles. Last time we got stuck it cost $1000 to get out. Rather than risk employees and vehicles and end up with insurance claims we are staying off the roads until they are better. When we do return to work, we will likely have to use personal 4 wheel drive vehicles and travel with extremely limited stock making many repairs difficult or impossible on the spot. We do apologize. Please call our governor’s office and make a complaint about the response to the weather: (804) 786-2211. This is nothing political either way. It doesn’t matter who’s in charge. As owner and a former 1st responder I can tell you that the majority of emergency vehicles are not 4 wheel drive and many people have heart attacks shoveling snow.
Be safe out there and we’ll be back to work ASAP.
