Filipinos celebrate Christmas like no other. Pasko or Christmas is part of Filipino culture, where they start decorating their houses at the beginning of "Ber" months. December is a month filled with celebrations and customs that Filipinos dearly kept for years.
December 16, 2021, Thursday (Philippine time) Category 5 Typhoon Odette / Rai first hit Siargao, then around 2 p.m. the people in Southern Leyte started panicking because the Category 3 they expect feels like the Super Typhoon Haiyan from 2013.
The monster Odette left Southern Leyte with a wind speed of 195 kilometers per hour and a gust of 270 kph near the typhoon center. Odette's destruction did not end in Visayas, because its path continued in Northern Mindanao and Caraga.
Odette affected approximately 16 million, and almost 4 million are Filipinos living below the poverty line. It was not until December 18, 2021 that people saw the total devastation Odette left. Most of the places were isolated for more than 72 hours, and the following places are under State of Calamity.
Mimaropa
Western Visayas
Central Visayas
Eastern Visayas
Northern Mindanao
Caraga
