Just went to a vehicle lockout in a home garage, and it was running. People, PLEASE, pull your vehicle out of the garage while warming it up. The poisonous carbon monoxide from tjr exhaust can accumulate against the ceiling, can get into your attic space thru light fixture holes in the ceiling as well as thru the attic stairway.

Don’t threaten me with a bad review if you are going to tell me you can’t trust me, and still want me to open your vehicle.

You needed me, I don’t need you

There is a website called Hereford Locksmith, and has a website, that appears to be a dispatch-only call center, and IS NOT LOCAL, and is likely a scam. They take your call, and sometimes your money, and then try and find a local locksmith that will respond. I just returned from one a bit ago who has been waiting a while, and always an excuse when he called back. The previous ones I were told about were 1) waiting over 4 hours, and 2) prepaid $150, and did not get a refund.

Please, know who you are calling and never prepay. Texas locksmiths are licensed by the State of Texas DPS

Please, Hereford, the surrounding area, the people that know me, the people that don’t, be aware of this possible scam locksmith listed on the internet. Someone contacted them this morning, and after several follow up calls, they still never showed, but had excuses every time. A couple weeks ago someone contacted me after pre-paying $150 to them, then waited overnight for no one to ever show from their company.

I just returned from a vehicle that I had been asked to quote making keys for a week or so ago, due to the keys being lost. She didn’t like my price last week, which leads to today.

She calls a bit ago and asks what the price would be, and if I would come program her new keys. She agreed on price so I went to the job. Getting there, she hands me the ignition cylinder so I can put it in, and I declined. I peeked around the column to find someone had destroyed the lock cylinder housing while drilling the old one out. I told her they would have to put the new cylinder in, since they removed old one. The housing wouldn’t even allow the cylinder retention pin to function, and the key would not turn all the way off to be removed, but without retention, the whole cylinder would come out.

This is the part is like, I look over the type ignition assembly, and start quoting her how much things are going to cost to make it right. This one will need a replacement column, prob $200 at junk yard, then someone to install it, and I told her not to use the guy who drilled the cylinder out cause he doesn’t have a clue what he is doing, and when it is back the way it should be, the bill will prob run about $650. My original quote, with mileage, was $300.

She asked if I would program the keys now anyway. So I used the actuator tip piece off old cylinder, and the new key, and programmed her new keys, without her new cylinder in place. She wasn’t happy, but I didn’t choose that path for her.

Don’t get mad at me when you take the ‘cheap’ way out.

Never travel without a second vehicle key or remote. I was contacted yesterday concerning a valet loosing the remote to a person’s vehicle, which now leaves them stranded until the remote is found or replaced.

Just returned from a call concerning a person living alone, who had fallen and initially unable to get to door to unlock for family, and no one had keys to his house.

If you have family living alone, be sure they have someone looking out for them that has keys to get in, in case they cannot get to the door and need assistance.

Had a service call in neighboring town today. A young group of people came to this town over weekend for a festival, lost their keys last night, and couldn’t get home because of no spare key. I always promote bringing a spare working key when going out of town. You should always keep a spare hidden somewhere inside vehicle when traveling (not a remote for the push to start vehicles. BAD IDEA). It sure will save some time and money with this spare hidden key when traveling.

So I have had my new (to me) work van for a few months now, and finally broke down and did some basic lettering. I am now at least represented and it looks decent.

Always be prepared. In this case, have a way into your house for emergency purposes. Stash a spare key somewhere, have garage door, or other keypad code written down and available (so many people just hit the numbers from muscle memory and when asked, can’t recite the number) in case someone needs in your house.

I wasn’t in town, when I got a call concerning a medical emergency today, husband in Amarillo, wife too bad a shape to get to door to let anyone in. I was 25 miles away so made a call to Sheriff, then headed back to town at full speed (van governs out at 102 mph). Sheriff got door open and let EMS in, and I arrived shortly after.
