Current project of ours.
Jefferson Elementary School is making big changes through a large renovation and expansion project aimed at updating its building and making the school more accessible for all students. Construction started in May 2024 and is being completed in multiple phases to minimize classroom disruption.
The first phase focused on preparing the site over the summer by expanding parking and doing demolition work. That phase wrapped up by August 2024. The architecture firm Architechnique Limited is leading the design efforts, with construction handled by Evrard Company Incorporated. Principal Architect Steve Sims said the work is helping transform the school into a more modern space that meets today’s needs.
Currently in progress, phase two includes building four new classrooms, new restrooms, expanding the kitchen with a walk-in cooler and freezer, adding classrooms for Student Support Services, and updating the library. The principal’s office is also being relocated near the parking lot to make room for a new ADA-compliant front entrance. Additional work includes installing new ramps to improve accessibility throughout the building.
Sims said the building was originally designed in the 1950s, and these upgrades are being made to meet modern safety codes while improving access and comfort for both students and staff. The school received grant funding to help cover the costs of meeting ADA compliance.
Phase three is scheduled to begin in summer 2025 when school is out, focusing on more interior improvements. Major construction is expected to be finished before the 2025-2026 school year begins, though some smaller updates may continue into the following school year.
“This project really helps our students by making the school safer and easier to get around,” Sims said. “We’re creating a better learning environment for everyone.”
