Here’s a good example of why experience matters when repairing a tiled shower.
At some point, caulk had been used across portions of this shower floor as a way to cover problem areas. While caulk absolutely has an important place in a properly maintained shower, using it as a band-aid over failing grout in the field of a tiled floor isn’t the solution.
It creates additional edges and surfaces where soap residue, dirt and moisture can collect — and eventually it all has to come back out.
The right approach is to evaluate what’s actually failing and make the appropriate repair rather than simply covering up the symptoms.
This isn’t about criticizing whoever worked on it previously. Homeowners deserve to understand why a repair is being performed and whether it’s actually addressing the problem long-term.
