That is approximately how long it takes to make one Óvalo Throw by hand. ⁠
You can see that time in the weave, the density of the pattern, and the texture of the finished piece. ⁠
⁠
But what I love most is that all of that work goes into something completely usable. It is made to be pulled over your shoulders, left on the sofa, folded at the end of the bed, and reached for every day. ⁠

That contrast is what makes it special to me: extraordinary skill, made for ordinary life.⁠

As a designer, I’m always thinking about what we choose to carry forward.⁠
⁠
The footloom has been part of Guatemala’s textile story for centuries, with techniques and knowledge passed from one generation of weavers to the next. Today, that history is still alive in the hands of the artisans we work with.⁠
⁠
It’s one of the things I admire most about Guatemalan culture, and one of the reasons I feel such a personal responsibility to approach these textiles with respect. Preserving craft doesn’t mean keeping it frozen in the past. It means valuing the knowledge behind it and finding thoughtful ways for it to continue living in the spaces we design today.⁠
