Growing Kiwi Trees at Home: A Guide for Pot Cultivation
1. Select a Variety: Choose a dwarf variety of kiwi suitable for container growing.
2. Prepare Supplies: Get a large pot (20-30 gallons) with drainage holes, a trellis or support system, well-draining potting mix, slow-release fertilizer, and a watering system.
3. Planting:
Install the trellis or support in the pot.
Fill the pot with potting mix.
Plant the kiwi, ensuring roots are spread out and not crowded.
4. Care:
Place in a spot that receives 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
Water regularly to keep the soil moist.
Fertilize in early spring and mid-summer.
Prune in winter to manage size and shape, and in summer to ensure light reaches the fruits.
5. Pollination: Ensure you have both male and female plants if they are not self-pollinating.
6. Monitoring: Check for pests, diseases, and signs of water stress.
