2025, through our lens ✨

A year of trusting the brief, leaning into bold moments, and designing homes (and offices) that actually work for the people living in them. From early renderings to lived-in spaces, here’s a look back at what we built, imagined, and brought to life this year:

1️⃣Park Slope Brownstone Kitchen: Parlor-level kitchen renovation for a young family, designed for everyday life.
2️⃣Prospect Park West Apartment: Primary Bedroom with full-wall custom closets and a built-in desk tucked into the bay window.
3️⃣Prospect Park West Apartment: Kids’ bunk room with a play loft and integrated desk, making the most of every inch.
4️⃣Brooklyn Psychiatry Office: Lobby sneak peek (not professionally photographed yet). A calm, welcoming first impression.
5️⃣Hawthorne Project: Wall of custom built-ins paired with a marble fireplace, equal parts functional and sculputal.
6️⃣New Hoboken Project: Hall bath rendering as part of a full living space renovation and two complete bathroom remodels.
7️⃣Willuamsburg Condo: Living room rendering with custom built-ins; a full rethink of both living room and bedroom for better flow and storage.
8️⃣Park Slope Basement -> Home Offices: Basement transformation with two dedicated offices and glass partitions to let light travel.
9️⃣Midtown Office: Rendering for a brief we loved: masculine, inviting, cozy.
🔟Hoboken Project: Full A-Z renovation completed in just five months. We started immediately after closing and delivered custom millwork, added walls, built in daybed, full custom built in office, overhauled the primary suite and rooftop terrace.
1️⃣1️⃣Park Slope Duplex: designed for entertaining: an upper living room, curved dining area (created by reworking primary suite), and a fully reimagined basement.
1️⃣2️⃣Harlem Condo: (not photographed yet): living room and primary bedroom overhaul via The Edit, consulting-only support to fully design and furnish the home.
1️⃣3️⃣Park Slope Bathroom (not photographed yet): lighting and bathroom updates, another The Edit project focused on refining details and getting it over the finish line.

Grateful for the trust, the collaboration, and the momentum. Onward to 2026 🤍

How to make holiday decor feel cozy, elevated, and never kitschy ✨

3 interior designer tips we swear by:

✨ 1) Our tried & true tip: Layer textures, not novelty.
Fur, velvet, and knits instantly add warmth and depth without feeling themed. Think plush throws, layered pillows, velvet bows tied onto a chandelier or mirror — these swaps make a space feel luxe, inviting, and intentional (without the clutter).

✨ 2) Our most underrated tip: Swap the art.
Seasonal artwork is one of the fastest ways to change the mood of a room. A wintery landscape or richer, moodier piece can immediately shift the vibe and give subtle chalet energy — no ornaments required.

✨ 3) Our bold tip: Rethink the mantel.
If you’re craving a statement, start here. Skip the traditional garland and try something unexpected — shearling or velvet stockings, an all-candle moment, or a sculptural centerpiece. One strong idea > lots of little holiday things.

Introducing our newest project in Hoboken. ✨

The apartment was a great space, but lacked the character and functionality this family needed. So we reimagined it from the inside out: adding an arched reading nook off the living room, designing custom built-ins for a hardworking entryway, removing the bulky fireplace to create a true dining area, building a custom office, and transforming the primary suite with a new walk-through closet framed by an archway. A transformation rooted in thoughtful architecture and millwork.

Our latest obsession: the built-in banquette. Equal parts function and fun, it saves space, adds hidden storage, and makes room for pattern play. And let’s be honest… who doesn’t love a booth?

Here are our three tips when adding a banquette:

1️⃣ if creating a custom banquette, make sure to add storage like in the seat or on the sides. Even a few inches of space can make for great storage (like for wine bottles).

2️⃣performance fabric on the seat is a must - but don’t be scared to play with interesting patterns. We love using a different fabric on the seat vs. the back to add visual interest.

3️⃣ layer in lighting: overhead pendants, wall sconces, or even a statement chandelier can define the dining area. Lighting should feel warm and inviting, like your favorite corner booth at a restaurant.

Part 2 of breaking down the interior design process 🏠

Here’s a look at Phase 2 where the creative magic happens, from mood boards and floor plans to cabinet finishes and custom millwork details. It’s the stage where your vision turns into a plan. We align on design direction, budget, and scope before moving into materials, furnishings, and 3D renderings that bring everything to life.

Part 3 of interior design process - where your vision becomes a reality ✨

Here’s a break down of phase 3 - construction kicks off with every detail documented, from elevations to material specs, so the build team has a clear roadmap. We’re there throughout, guiding decisions, visiting the site, and ensuring craftsmanship meets intention.

And finally, the furnishings and finishes are installed, styled, and perfected - transforming your space into a beautifully finished home that feels entirely your own.

✨ Introducing STORIE tablescapes ✨

Over the past year, we’ve had the joy of styling tablescapes for a few of our clients’ gatherings — from intimate dinners to holiday celebrations. The feedback has been so positive, and we’ve loved seeing how a thoughtfully designed table can completely transform the atmosphere of a space.

We’re excited to now expand this into a full service within our firm. Whether it’s a festive holiday, milestone celebration, or simply an elevated dinner at home, our tablescape service brings the same care and attention to detail that we bring to every design project.

Because at the end of the day, it’s not just about the design of your home — it’s about the stories you create within it. ✨

A little country charm, reimagined ✨ (Swipe for the before ➡️)

For this Pennsylvania cottage, the goal was simple: preserve the cozy character while refining it for today. Think timeless textures, modern comfort, and layered finishes that balance rustic charm with clean lines.

I see we have some new followers, and I am so happy you have come along for the ride 🎈

To give you a little insight behind our small but mighty firm, here is a brief intro, looking forward to getting to know you all more!

✨ I’m Sarah — founder and principal designer of STORIE, an interior design studio based in Jersey City. After 15 years in NYC real estate, I pivoted into design to follow my passion for creating thoughtful, story-driven spaces that reflect the people who live in them.

We work throughout NYC, NJ, and beyond.

At STORIE, kindness is a cornerstone of everything we do — it’s how I approach my clients, how I ask them to approach me, and how I collaborate with my trades. Renovations can be stressful, but I believe that integrity, respect, and trust are what allow projects to move forward successfully. My goal is to earn my clients’ confidence, so they can step back and let us do what we do best: getting the project across the finish line with creativity and care.

Every home and every space has a story to tell, and I feel incredibly grateful to help bring those stories to life. ❤️
