Here at John Orsini Topsoil our goal is to provide outstanding service to our customers from delivering a good product to providing usefull information that will help them with their journey throughout the course of their project(s).

We often receive calls from those inquiring about topsoil. Once asked what the caller is going to use the topsoil for it usually always turns out to be for lawn care, planting a new garden, filling in ruts in the yard, leveling out some low spots to trying to grow some grass. Unless you're having drainage issues surrounding your home's foundation, then topsoil is what you will need just for that issue. Topsoil is a heavy soil that will help keep your foundation dry. Topsoil helps to fill in deep holes and ruts in your yard. Topsoil is not what we recommend for planting grass, flowers and/or planting a garden. We have organic blended soils solely for those purposes. We don't carry straight topsoil.

Whenever we're asked about topsoil we encourage our customers to ask other companies who do have topsoil, to ask: is the topsoil screened and free of debris (chunks of cement, bricks, trash, etc); is the soil dry so that it's easily worked with by hand?

Should your project be filling in a deep hole where a huge tree once stood with topsoil and you decide to grow grass but are unsure what to use or who to purchase from rest assured John Orsini Topsoil has what you need. Our organic blended soils can help your lawn become the envy of the neighborhood.

John Orsini Topsoil has been serving the Hockessin and northern New Castle County areas for over fifty years. We offer:
Golf Course blend, Combination soil, triple shredded hardwood mulch natural and dyed black, delivery and pick-up. We deliver Monday thru Saturday.

Garden Soil, organic manure, organic elemental sulfur and beneficial microbes. These ingredients are mixed and monitored for several weeks by providing routine aeration and maintaining adequate moisture (Note: we are required to turn the piles no less frequently than every 3 days, to keep the whole windrow (i.e. pile) at the right temperature/moisture. Bactifeed is applied multiple times.). During this time, the beneficial fungi and microbes in the mix create an extreme heat (over 130°F), wiping out any w**d seeds and killing harmful pathogens. The end result is a compost that is rich in nutrients and beneficial microbes allowing 100% Organic Compost to rejuvenate depleted or sanitized soils. Excellent for , Garden Beds, Raised Beds ,Top dressing ( lawns ) ,Vegetabllea garden. All purpose soil for the home gardener. Please call John Orsini Topsoil, Inc. (302 ) 230-7364.

It has been brought to my attention more than once when people call to ask me if I carry compost. I always answer "yes I do" but some people do not consider mushroom soil as true compost. So I thought I would help clear this subject up just a bit. My mushroom soil is a by-product of mushroom farming and thus considered as organic compost, black gold. Once the mushrooms have been harvested, the mushroom houses are emptied, the soil is then sterilized and aged one year. It gets turned every ten days and the ph balance is between 6.5 - 7.5. 100% organic. It contains live microbes living organisms that multiply on each turning to promote good seed and root growth. It retains moisture with the help of the peat moss. I'm often asked "I'm not going to grow wild mushrooms am I?" Lol...rest assure no you're not. It will, however, grow your vegetables beyond your wildest dreams. FYI if you do see actual wild mushrooms growing in your yard that's a great indication that the conditions are prime. Remember if you have any questions please feel free to give us call at 302-239-7364. John Orsini Topsoil has been serving Hockessin and Northern New Caslte County since 1972.

Spring has arrived but with Mother Nature not cooperating do not let her dampen your spirits! Warmer weather is on the way for next week which is ideal for getting that vegetable garden started. Of course you want a good soil to help with your crop and we strongly recomend using our combo soil. It's mushroom soil (aka 'black gold', compost) with peat moss; straight out of the mushroom house, sterilized, aged one year, turned every ten days. It's one hundred percent organic to help promote your root and seed growth. You can rototill it into your existing garden or use it as a top dressing. Once you're finished throw your seed down and water it. Do not add anything else to it such as fertilizer or you'll burn it up. We cannot express this enough! You will be satisfied with the results. Please feel free to share your garden pictures to our page.
