40 more days until spring, and I’m getting a jumpstart on the season. I’ve been sowing seeds for a couple weeks already, and there’s still time to join me!!

You don’t need a fancy indoor setup…
❌ No grow lights necessary.
❌ No heat mats.
❌ No extra space needed in the house.

Winter sowing is truly an easy, low-maintenance way to grow your own plants from seed. Nature does most of the work. 🌿 By spring, you’ve got strong, healthy seedlings ready to transplant. And it’s all done with minimal effort.

All you need is a milk jug or any clear plastic container, potting soil, seeds, and a dream of flowers blooming all summer long. 😍🌷

A few plants I’m winter sowing…
🌼 Mountain mint
🌼 Snapdragons
🌼 Feverfew
🌼 Calendula
🌼 Delphinium
🌼 Scabiosa
🌼 Strawflower
🌼 Foxgloves
🌼 Yarrow
…AND MORE

It's ranunculus time! Ranunculus are one of my favorite spring blooms in the cut flower garden. 😍

These beauties fill the garden with layers of stunning, ruffled petals in all the vibrant colors you could dream of – and they're a perfect flower for bouquets.

Here’s a quick rundown of my growing process:
✅ Soak the ranunculus corms for a few hours.
✅ Pre-sprout the corms indoors in trays - they like it dark and cool (typically 10 days to 3 weeks).
✅ Transplant the ranunculus into bulb crates to grow on for the rest of the season outdoors.

By mid-spring, I should be ready to harvest these beauties for florists and friends. They are the perfect addition to any spring floral arrangement, especially for weddings or Mother's Day! 💐

I'm in Zone 6b, so ranunculus corms don't overwinter here. When the foliage dies back, I will dig up and store the corms until next year's growing season. They're similar to dahlia tubers in that way, but they are seasonally different flowers.

Who else is excited to start planting? Drop a 🌸 in the comments if you're giving ranunculus a go this year, or share your tips if you're a pro!

The beauty of the garden, truly lies in the details.

This is a photo of one of my many bigleaf hydrangeas (hydrangea macrophylla). No idea what variety it is, but it pumps out blooms every year in a range of soft pink, purple, to blue. Stunning in the landscape.
