If you’ve been to our office, then you have seen the crutches, wheelchairs and mobility equipment that we have been collecting for Crutches for Africa.
Today, Mark, shared with the Holly Springs Rotary Club about his recent trip to Tanzania!
Today, we were privileged to hear from our own Holly Springs Rotary Club member, Mark Campbell who shared about his recent trip ✈️ to Tanzania, along with an update on the Crutches 4 Africa project he’s been part of since 2024.
Mark and Fr Faustine Mosha, of Arusha, Tanzania, became friends after Mosha's visit to the U.S. in 2024. Mark visited Tanzania some months later, after which his journey led him to discover Crutches 4 Africa, a non-profit that provides mobility equipment to those in need.
In just a few short months Mark led local efforts to fill a newly-purchased shipping container with donated equipment; they’re now raising money to send it to Tanzania.
Mark shared with us that very few resources are available to the disabled in developing nations. The efforts by locals serving those in need in Tanzania are remarkable, and his stories were extremely moving:
> The rehab center he visited lost funding at the end of 2024 after 20 years, yet the staff has continued to work there, without pay.
> He met the people at Shanga, one of a very few organizations that employ people with disabilities (they create unique jewelry, gift items, etc.)
> There’s the Tumaini Children’s Center that serves 20 from toddlers to college. Staff there work for free also, including transportation by SUV and all the school services.
But there’s also progress to celebrate: the school that first brought Mark and Fr. Faustine together, St. Charles Pre-Primary School, has been operating since Jan '25, (albeit without power).
On this trip Mark and his family had fun introducing the students to a little of the flavor of American kids’ life: a pizza party complete with party hats and noisemakers, and an egg hunt.
Memories of a lifetime! If you would like to learn more or get involved, please let us know!
