🌿 INDOOR OR OUTDOOR PLANT? Here’s how to REALLY tell 👇
Before you decide where to put your new plant, SAVE this! 🔖🌱
Here’s the secret: plants don’t care if they’re technically “inside” or “outside.” They care about getting the right growing conditions.
So instead of asking “Is this an indoor or outdoor plant?” check these 4 things:
☀️ 1. LIGHT
Many houseplants prefer bright, filtered or indirect light, while many outdoor flowering plants need stronger or more direct sunlight.
⚠️ But outdoor doesn’t always mean full sun! Some plants thrive outside in partial shade.
🌿 2. LEAVES
The foliage can give you clues.
Broad, softer leaves are often found on plants adapted to filtered light and humidity, while thicker or tougher leaves may tolerate stronger sun.
But remember: leaves are a clue, not a rule!
🌡️ 3. TEMPERATURE
This one is HUGE.
A tropical plant may live happily outdoors year-round in South Florida ☀️ but need to come indoors during winter in a colder state. ❄️
Same plant. Different climate. Different answer.
💧 4. HUMIDITY
Many tropical plants love humidity. Even with perfect lighting, very dry indoor air can sometimes cause crispy edges or curling leaves.
🌱 THE BETTER QUESTION IS:
Instead of:
❌ “Indoor or outdoor?”
Ask:
✅ How much LIGHT does it need?
✅ What TEMPERATURE can it tolerate?
✅ How much HUMIDITY does it prefer?
✅ What climate do I live in?
Identify the plant first, learn what conditions it needs, and THEN decide where it belongs. 🌿💚
