Well it was definitely not the day he wanted or expected but the T6 finish was still an unbelievable accomplishment for a 16yr old. He hung tough and never gave up all day!!!

What I love most is that he will not be satisfied with this and it will drive him to be better. Its too early to tell what all he has learned from this experience but whatever it is will help him down the road in future events!!!!! So proud of you young man!!!!

Just another amazing showing...at the Michigan Open among the top pros and amateur golfers in the state hes hanging tough. Was atop the leader board super early only thru 4 holes but still impressive...even more impressive was his 2nd round 65 to move i to 3rd place alone thru 2 rounds!!!! At only 16 yrs old and just completed his freshman year in high school!!!! Couldn't be more proud of this kid!!!!!

Hestwood earns City Golf Championship in marathon match

In a case of father knows best, Jackson golfer Riley Hestwood may have his father to partly thank for winning the Jackson City Golf Championship Saturday at the Country Club of Jackson.
After playing six match-play matches in the last week, Hestwood was finding the second 18 a grind in the 36-hole championship.
With seven holes remaining in a tight match, Hestwood’s father took over caddying duties for the lefty and Riley responded with a 1 up win over Bret Valkuchak.
It is the third major championship for Hestwood in Jackson County having won the Spring Thaw in 2020, the Jackson Masters in 2024, and the City Championship in 2026.
Hestwood was getting a little slow physically and maybe mentally heading into the back nine.
“The second 18 (of a 36-hole championship match) is a grind,” Hestwood said. “It was nice to have a familiar face watching me play.”
Hestwood and Valkuchak started hot on the front nine of the opening round as Hestwood shot a 33 and Valkuchak carded a 35.
Hestwood had a 3 up lead with two holes remaining in the morning 18 before Valkuchak won 17 and 18. Hestwood was 1 up after 18 holes.
“My speed on the greens was off a bit at the end of the first round,” Hestwood said. “I had to remind myself I play out here quite a bit.”
Valkuchak won hole Nos. 1 and 3 to go up in the match. Hestwood won No. 6 with a birdie and eight with a par.
Valkuchak made a bomb on No. 9 to tie the match with nine holes remaining. Both players struggled on the final nine as Hestwood scored a 38 and Valkuchak a 39.
Hestwood took the lead for good with a par on 17.
His 30-foot putt for an eagle on 18 ended up inches short for a tap-in birdie and the win.
Hestwood expects to play in a number of major tournament around the area and in the Michigan Amateur at the end of the month.

What an absolute incredible freshman year of golf for this young man!!! Number 1 in the state in birdies made and also number 1 in the state in scoring average!!! This was not the finish he had hoped for for sure. If you know him you know he will not be happy with it but still a great accomplishment for his freshman year. He battled thru some tough weather a tough course and a tough off the course personal loss. He showed the heart of a champion thru it all!!! What i loved most about watching him was how no matter how he was playing he was rooting his teammates on on every shot and every putt!! Also thank you to the upper classman teammates for accepting a freshman onto the team and embracing him ! Thank you to his coaches as well!!

He had 10 wins on the year but not getting number 11 is what will drive him moving on. We couldn't be more proud of you young man!!!!! Freshman for michigan Mr. Golf but hey im byas.

What a start to a high school golf career. 6 for 6!!!! All the hardwork and hours upon hours of getting it out of the dirt is showing!!! Couldn't be more proud of this young man!!!

Bentley played in this event a few weeks back. These guys do it up right for these junior golfers. Great exposure and opportunities!!!! If you are not doing anything tonight give it a watch. These kids are good!!!! Bentley received a junior sponsorship from Titleist (balls, gloves, hats and shoes) because of his play all year but especially at this National event!!!
