I recommend organizing your printed photos is photo boxes. Yes, removing all of your photos and transferring them to boxes may be tedious..but it'll be worth it.

Photo boxes take up less space, which not only makes your shelves look tidier, it's also easier to transfer if you're moving/downsizing or passing on your photos to your kids.

Before you scan all of your photos, it's important to get them organized first. Organizing them is important because what's the point of getting them digitized without them being sorted? You'll just end up with a digitized mess!

Organizing by date and theme is the best of both worlds--you'll be able to find important events AND you'll also have a category for certain themes/seasons that happened during certain years (ex: Lake Days, Basketball Games, etc).

Read on for tips on what to do if you don't have the time to scan all of your photos. I recommend scanning the most important photos first. For the photos you want to scan later, organize them (since you need to sort the photos first anyway).
