I don’t do this very often but I’d like to get something out there….
If you have a project in mind, whether you’re ready to do it or are interested in finding out what it would cost, Angie’s List and sites like that are not the place you should start searching. Sites like that likely have a small contractor base in your area and most of the local contractors you’d like to have do the project are not affiliated with any of these sites because we have a strong customer base and usually a heavy backlog of work. These sites charge contractors a lead fee whether you get the work done or not. If you just want to see how much it costs, and you inquire through a site like this, it is sent out and a contractor literally has to buy the lead to give you an estimate. It costs them money just so you can have a ballpark quote on a remodel, or addition, or whatever it is you’d like done. Talk to the local lumber yards, Morrison, Dufrenes, Lowes, Home Depot, Antique Brick, Coburns, The Plumbing Warehouse….They can put you in touch with who they consider to be the best or most reliable contractor for your needs. And as always, the contractor should be able to provide licensing and insurance information. Lord knows we pay enough for that already without having to pay for leads!
