⚠️ New business owners — watch your mailbox! Don’t Fall for the Poster & Certificate Scams Targeting New Louisiana Business Owners

I recently registered my company, and within days, I started receiving fake government-looking letters:

A letter from the “Business Posting Department” demanding $92.58 for a mandatory labor law compliance poster.

Another from a company called ESCS, requesting $108.00 for similar posters.

And a third from the “Business Resource Center” urging me to complete the “last step” to obtain an elective Louisiana Certificate of Status.

Each of these letters was timed perfectly to follow my LLC registration, used official-looking formatting, and used urgent language to scare me into compliance.

All looked official… but they’re private companies trying to trick small businesses. They say you’ll get fined or that it’s your “final step” — but if you read the fine print, it says:

“You are not required to purchase anything from this company.”

None of them came from a real government agency

This is how they stay legal, but it’s still deceptive — and it could easily cost you hundreds of dollars if you don’t pause and question it.

💥 Don’t fall for it. If you don’t have employees yet, you don’t need labor posters. And you can get your official certificate directly from the Secretary of State for a few bucks — if you even need it.

💡 These companies rely on new entrepreneurs being too busy or too unsure to question what looks like a government demand. I nearly fell for it myself, thankfully i read the fine print. If you’ve recently launched your business, watch your mail closely — and trust your gut.

If you’re unsure, ask questions, do a quick search, or reach out to a trusted advisor. Let’s protect each other and keep our hard-earned dollars in our businesses — not in the hands of thieves!!
