As we are growing and creating our gardens, we find that sometimes the unexpected really works.
Incorporating globed evergreens like these Dwarf Yaupon Holly shrubs adds a wonderful contrast to the ornamental grasses and blooming salvias (mystic spires salvia and shooting star lily).
It’s so easy to prune a regular holly into a globe, as I did here (saves money too!). Just start shaping by cutting from the top and then curving around the edges. I use sheep shears for mine, but any flat pruners will work. The more you trim the tighter the globe will be as it grows.
If you’d like to try this idea, stop by our nursery today and pick up some Dwarf Yaupon Holly evergreen shrubs (we would opt out of boxwoods as they tend to get diseases). Plant them where they will create a contrast amongst your flowering color or grasses and enjoy.
