Stair dust corners were introduced at the end of the 19th century to make sweeping easier. These small metal fittings were placed in the corners where stair treads and risers met, preventing dust and debris from accumulating in hard-to-clean crevices.
They became popular in Victorian-era homes as a practical cleaning aid.
