Katy ISD is gearing up to add 12 new courses for the 2026 to 2027 school year. Half of these come from the CTE department. District leaders say the new lineup reflects real workforce needs. Translation, students will learn skills that actually get them hired.
Here is the quick rundown:
⢠AP Business with Personal Finance
⢠Business Law for Real Estate
⢠Business Management for Legacy Virtual High School
⢠Principles of Architecture
⢠Practicum in Construction
⢠Extended Practicum in Construction
⢠Three Academic Decathlon courses
⢠AP Physics C, Mechanics
⢠AP Physics C, Electricity and Magnetism
⢠Methodology for Academic and Personal Success
Here is what stands out:
⢠A new underground utility detection program tied to a growing state shortage
⢠A future integration with the CDL program so students can certify in both fields
⢠AP level physics for students headed into engineering or physical sciences
⢠A more flexible real estate pathway built around a one year option
Here is the scale.
More than 31,500 students are enrolled in CTE certification courses. The district now offers over 130 options across Raines Academy, Miller Career Center and the Young Agricultural Sciences Center.
Here is the part that matters for parents. Trustees asked how these courses hold up with the rise of AI. District leaders said they are prioritizing careers that AI cannot replace. Plumbers, construction trades and utility workers will still be needed to build the physical side of the tech world. Even automation needs humans to verify accuracy.

The āFind Your Futureā event happens Jan. 27. Students can meet industry partners and see how these programs turn into real careers and real income.
