Since the Welcome Center building at Prairie View A&M University was designed and constructed in 2019 it has served as the background for a countless number of graduation photos each graduation season. We, at Smith & Company Architects are humbled every year by the pride we feel to be a part of these highly emotional and personal achievements. Take a look at just a sampling of these awesome moments from the 2026 graduating class. The university even used a backdrop of the Welcome Center at the commencement exercise!

Our Historically Black College campus projects continue to serve as the foundation of our higher education portfolio, particularly our work on the campuses of Texas Southern University and Prairie View A&M University. HBCUs produce roughly 20% of all bachelor's degrees earned by African American students and are responsible for graduating 80% of African American judges, 60% of African American doctors, and 50% of African American teachers. SCA continues to support these historical institutions that are critical to the resilience of the African American community in the US.

We’re excited to celebrate Will Weaver, our newest licensed architect! 🎉

Starting off as an intern in our Houston office six years ago, Will has developed into a highly capable project manager, contributing to K–12 projects, civic and transit projects, and multifamily developments in the Austin and DFW regions. Will’s commitment to his own professional growth, along with his commitment to the success of some of our most technically challenging projects, provides our office with an example for other emerging professionals to follow.

We’re honored to celebrate the ribbon cutting of the new Fresno Boys & Girls Club, a Fort Bend County project proudly designed by Smith & Company Architects.

This new Club represents a meaningful investment in Fresno’s youth—a place where kids will have access to academic support, healthy-lifestyle programs, mentorship, and opportunities to help shape bright futures.

Our sincere thanks to Fort Bend County and Commissioner Grady Prestage for their leadership and commitment to bringing this vision to life. We’re also grateful to the Boys & Girls Club team, community partners, families, and residents who supported this milestone.

A special thank‑you to our project team — Kirk Paul, Project Manager; Ayana Nwaokolo, RID, NCIDQ, Interior Design Director; and Sean Ziegler, Project Architect — for their dedication and thoughtful design leadership throughout this project.

🎉 Celebrating the Topping Out of the LBJ Hospital Parking Garage! 🎉

A major milestone was reached today as the final beam was placed atop the new LBJ Hospital Parking Garage — a moment that symbolizes the completion of the building’s structure and the collective effort behind it.

Smith & Company Architects is proud to have led the design of this important project, supporting the continued growth of the LBJ campus and improving access for patients, staff, and the community.

Grateful for the exceptional partnership and teamwork that brought us to this point. Congratulations to Harris Health, O'Donnell/Snider Construction, JLL, and HKS, Inc. for their dedication and collaboration throughout this journey.

✨ Austin ISD recently celebrated Ribbon Cuttings at Williams Elementary (Dec. 1, 2025) and Cook Elementary (Dec. 5, 2025)—the last two of four open-concept campuses transformed through the 2022 Bond program, all designed by Smith & Company Architects.

Both events featured student performances, leadership remarks, and community gatherings. Thanks to the vision of Campus Architectural Team (CAT) members, district leadership, and the broader Austin ISD community, these revitalized campuses now offer:

◦ Safe, flexible classrooms with modern furnishings
◦ Collaboration areas and enhanced outdoor learning spaces
◦ Secure entry vestibules and dedicated care centers
◦ Major system upgrades (mechanical, electrical, plumbing)
◦ New spaces at Cook for a mental health center and community pantry

👏 Congratulations to Austin Independent School District, AECOM, Spire, Williams Elementary, Cook Elementary, and all partners who made these student-centered designs a reality for the 2025–2026 school year!

A Big Step Forward at LBJ Hospital!

We’re thrilled to celebrate the topping out of the new Central Utility Plant at Harris Health’s Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital campus. Smith & Company Architects, in association with HKS, Inc., is proud to lead the design team of this 86,000 SF facility as part of Harris Health System’s $2.5B capital improvement program. With a projected cost of $34.5 million and completion slated for May 2027, the CUP will provide the critical infrastructure needed to power the future of this vital campus—boosting energy efficiency, reliability, and resilience for years to come.
