RTH is thrilled to have the support of The Guild Shop for our mission to save the homes of seniors! For more than 60 years, The Guild Shop has supported organizations that serve the elderly in need. With RTH serving hundreds of elderly neighbors, many of whom are extremely low income, this partnership is heaven sent. Shop their extraordinary consignment inventory for unique treasures.

Why our work matters. So the front door doesn't become the end of someone's independence. Like Ms. Maria Valdez who is 92 years old, suffers from dementia and, is wheelchair bound.

Rebuilding Together provides free wheelchair ramps for low income homeowners anywhere in Harris County.

Congratulations to Gary Price of MAREK, newly elected Board Secretary / Governance Committee Chair at Rebuilding Together Houston. In addition to his leadership role at MAREK, Gary has served on the RTH Board since 2021, participated in Strategic Planning, and led the MAREK skilled Volunteer Home Repair Crews. This fall, he’s bringing in construction partners to make an even bigger impact in the community. Thanks for all you do for RTH, Gary.

Extreme Heat is here! Heat is deadly — it’s a public health emergency that exposes the deep inequities shaping who stays safe and who suffers when the heat rises. Extreme heat is an equity crisis.

Every summer, the same neighborhoods in Houston suffer the most: Black, Brown, immigrant and low-income residents living in old, poorly insulated homes. In neighborhoods with limited tree canopy, minimal green space and extensive asphalt, homes can become “heat traps,” absorbing heat during the day and radiating it through the night.

Houston’s aging housing stock traps heat. Low income homeowners lack the resources to install air conditioning. Houston cooling centers offers some relief — but there are too few, often too far away, and they close by 8 pm. Some people feel unwelcome.
