Today, just shy of her 15th birthday, the original Pool Dog crossed the Rainbow Bridge. 🌈🐾
Penny was where our love affair with Golden Retrievers began. Before all the Goldens who came after her, there was Penny—the girl who showed us exactly why these dogs find their way so deeply into your heart.
She was the mom of Bob, Loki, and Khallie, and the grandma of Atlas, Briggs, Lilly, Ellie, Riley, Gus Gus, Levi, Louis, and Luci.
That is quite a legacy.
Nearly 15 years of loving her. Nearly 15 years of watching her family grow. And so much of Penny lives on in the generations that followed her—in familiar faces, sweet personalities, stubborn streaks, and that unmistakable Golden happiness.
And if you knew Penny, you knew about the ball. 🎾
She was the baller who simply would not quit. You could throw it a hundred times and Penny would still be standing there, ready for number 101.
One more throw. One more swim. One more adventure.
For nearly 15 years, she was there through pools and videos, puppies and grandpuppies, workdays and family days, and all those ordinary moments that never seem important enough at the time—until one day they become the memories you would give anything to have back.
Today there is a Penny-sized hole in our world.
But there is also an incredible family she leaves behind and a lifetime of memories that began because of one very special Golden.
Penny, you changed our lives simply by being part of them. You were the reason we fell in love with Goldens, and nothing was quite the same after you.
You truly were one in a million.
Run fast now, sweet girl. Swim in every pool you can find. And wherever you are, I hope someone remembered to bring a ball.
Because I know exactly what you’re doing.
