Just a father and son, taking one more slow ride down that dirt road that is paved with memories. People… this is your chance to be heard. Please show up to the meeting if want to be educated about the role of the NWLEPG in Sheridan County and have a voice about when you the landowner should have to pay the NWLEPG for domestic water well.

This meeting is to address the SIGNIFICANT changes regarding the new requirements and enforcements for all domestic drilling or water exploration for domestic purposes within Sheridan county by the NWLEPG.
Who is the NWLEPG? The Northwest Local Environmental Protection Group is a group out of Colby that the commissioners have signed into contract with to oversee, manage, control sanitary codes for the county. This meeting is to specifically address the interpretation and enforcement of the sanitary code with respect to ANY domestic drilling. Basically, at this point in time if a drillbit touches the dirt for a domestic purpose (testholes- livestock wells-residential wells-business water supply wells)the landowner must apply and pay for a non refundable a domestic well permit. This is in direct contrast to how this has been handled in the past.
Previously landowners were responsible for obtaining a permit for a viable domestic water well- not for simply trying to find water on their land.

On April 19th, Sheridan residents can have private well water tested for free. Come in and obtain a sample kit. Then on Thursday April 19th, return the filled sample kit to the health department by 9am to get it tested. Call the health department at 785-675-2101 with any questions!
