Featured plant: Acer palmatum, Japanese Maple

This lovely deciduous tree is the ‘parent plant’ of many other Japanese Maple cultivars. The small palmate leaves are delicate in appearance and cast tranquil, dappled shade. It has a wonderful branching structure, and the irregular canopy is considered very architectural. The autumn foliage is outstanding in shades of reddish-orange, yellow, and purple. It is a beautiful focal point in any themed landscape and essential to the Japanese-inspired garden.
