Living History Growers

Living History Growers The Living History Boxwood Collection allows visitors of landmarks to take home a piece of history in the form of a boxwood or flower.

Boxwood were favorites of our founding fathers and are usually prominently displayed in the landscapes of their homes and other historic locations. The Living History Boxwood Collection® (the “Collection®”) allows visitors and patrons of these landmarks to take

home a piece of history in the form of a small boxwood actually propagated from the cuttings of on-site boxwood, some of which are over

200 years in age. The Collection® is an exclusive product of Living History Growers, LLC. Living History Growers has established long-term arrangements with historic landmarks whereby selective cuttings are periodically taken from the grounds. These cuttings are transported to Living History Growers growing facilities. The cuttings are segregated by cultivar and location, planted in special soil mixes, and exposed to an intensive misting system. Within six months, the cuttings have rooted. These rooted cuttings are transplanted to a container specific to the end customer and grown to the desired size. The Collection® is sold to visitors and patrons through the museum or gift shops of the various historic landmarks. Annual fund raisers and on-line ordering can also be arranged. The white oak floors have been waxed (check out Poplar Forest Restoration for their most recent post showing the work!), the Museum Shop has been spruced up with a deep cleaning and some painting, and we are excited to welcome visitors back 7 days a week beginning this Saturday, January 13th!

Gardens are FREE at Agecroft in January and February! 🌞 Enjoy the outdoors and wander our trails with beautiful views of the river. You might even see a train! 🚂

Our winter hours are Thursday through Sunday, Noon to 5:00pm. The last house tour slot of the day starts at 4:00pm.

Join us beginning tomorrow for our annual Winter Weekends! Poplar Forest is open for tours from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays only from January 14-March 12.

Docent guided tours offered at 10:30, 12:00, 1:00 and 2:30 (based on docent availability). Poplar Forest App guided tours are also available if you prefer a self-guided experience.
