Verona after dark hits differently.

Ancient piazzas buzzing with aperitivo. Roman walls lit gold against a night sky. Grandmothers, students, travelers, all sharing the same cobblestones like they always have. Because here, they always have.

This is what I came to Italy to feel. Not just to see the design to be inside it. As an architect, there’s no classroom like this. History you can touch. Culture you can taste. Spaces that have been lived in for centuries and still feel alive tonight.
The life of a traveling architect is equal parts inspiration and humility. You think you understand proportion, scale, atmosphere and then Verona hands you a piazza and quietly reminds you what those words actually mean.

The beautiful intersection between design and travel exists when in Verona. 🇮🇹

Euro Cucina: Trends in Mixing metals w/

Axor at Euro Cucina | Part 2

Milan handed me a lot of moments I’m still processing. But walking into the Axor showroom during Euro Cucina was one of those quiet ones, the kind where you slow down without meaning to.

Every fixture, every finish, every considered edge in that space reflected a design philosophy that doesn’t ask for attention, it simply earns it.

I was there with Matt, and we spent more time than we probably planned just moving through the space, talking through what makes a bath truly designed versus merely furnished. For my clients, the ones who notice when something is right, this is exactly the kind of sourcing conversation that changes a project.

Axor’s exhibit at Euro Cucina in Milan.

The finishes are what got me. Brushed bronze. Polished black chrome. Matte whites so clean they almost disappear. Or even mixing materials. Each one considered, each one telling a completely different story in the same space. This is the level of material intelligence my clients deserve and exactly why I’m here.

Milan has a way of finding you even when you think you’re just sightseeing. 🖤

A few years ago I walked into the Dolce & Gabbana museum and something shifted. I wasn’t standing in front of fashion. I was standing in front of a design philosophy.

The way each piece was constructed with absolute intention. The layering of texture like silk against brocade, embroidery over lace, each decision deliberate and nothing accidental. The color stories that felt both timeless and completely of their moment.

I remember thinking: this is exactly how I design a room. Not more. Not louder. But precisely, beautifully right.That moment never left me. And it’s exactly why I’m heading back.

This week I’ll be at Salone del Mobile and Milan Design Week and I’m watching everything! The showrooms, yes. But also the streets. The way Milanese style moves tells you where design is heading before it ever reaches a showroom floor.

At RMD Designs, inspiration doesn’t stop at the trade show door. It lives in the details, a color pairing on a cobblestone street, a texture glimpsed through a café window, the proportion of a centuries like an old doorway.

What an honor to be part of this. 🌿

Sherwin Williams’ Trendsight Team stopped by the Plain & Fancy Custom Cabinetry booth at KBIS 2026 and Grape Mist SW 6548 was front and center. As one of the featured designers in this space under Kelly’s leadership, I can tell you: this color earns every bit of the attention it’s getting.
Soft, sophisticated, and incredibly versatile. Grape Mist is the kind of hue that feels quiet until it doesn’t. It was woven into our design story intentionally, and seeing Sherwin-Williams spotlight that moment means a great deal.

This is my first time at Salone del Mobile, and I’m treating it exactly like the news event it is: I’m going in as a reporter. A licensed architect and designer with 30+ years of experience and I still have so much to learn from this city.
