Whew...those winds were crazy!
We've been responding to calls across the valley after last week's 40 mph wind gusts brought down large trees and limbs throughout the area. Spring wind season is always busy for us, but this one was a reminder of just how fast things can go sideways.
If you haven't had a chance to walk your property since the storm, now is a good time. What looked fine before the wind may not be as stable as it appears.
What to check:
— Hanging limbs that didn't fall. These are called widow makers and they can drop without warning, even days after the wind dies down.
— New cracks at the trunk or where large branches meet the tree
— Any lean or soil movement at the base
This year's dry winter left root systems with less grip than normal, so some trees that made it through the storm may still be compromised. Cottonwoods and Siberian elms in particular are worth a close look.
Roberts & Sons' Tree Service, Inc. is available for post-storm assessment and tree removal throughout Idaho Falls, Ammon, Rigby, Shelley, Rexburg, and Blackfoot. Licensed, insured, fair prices, 30 years of local experience.
A hazard tree doesn't get safer with time. Give us a call and we'll send Tarzan. That's what we call Mike, and after 30 years in the trees it's pretty well earned. He'll spot things in five minutes that most people would walk right past. 208.529.5970.
